as a Mac user, I am just about to start trying to get my head round COCOA, is it impossible, any recommendations on good sites to help. Or should I really give up and go jogging.

Get the Hillegass book 'Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X', the 3rd edition's being launched around now. It does assume you know some C before you start however.
If you don't know C, then 'Programming in Objective-C' by Kochan is a good introduction to it and the object-oriented variant used by Cocoa.
