Has anyone had any experience with cambiocar car sharing service? In particular, I am wondering how particular they are about where the driver's license is from. I've never gotten a German license and I hope I can squeak by with my still-valid Illinois license.
Any insights appreciated!
http://www.cambiocar.com/I assume you'll have to have a driver's license that's valid in Germany. If you've been here longer than three years and never switched yours, it's no longer valid. But hey, ask them anyway, and then post your results here -- I'd be interested, as I never switched my license, but would be eager for a way to avoid the moneygrubbing Fahrschulen.
BTW looks like cambiocar isn't a DB Carsharing partner, you might want to check them out as well.

I have a friend who called the drivers license place and it seems that for some U.S. states, there is a treaty which allows a direct transfer. I give them my old license and 40 euro and they give me a shiny new Deutsch license.
I'm going to embark on this great adventure next week. We'll see if it's as easy as it sounds. And then onto the cambiocar issue.
By the way, thanks for the info on the DB info...

A friend told me that Hamburg is one of a few cities in Germany where you may be able to trade in your license regardless of which state you are from. For example, my husband and I got our last licenses in California and they are a state that doesn't do the direct trade, but we might be able to do it anyway being in Hamburg. We are looking into it and I will post the information when I find out.

I always find it quite strange when Americans are having such difficulties with their licences, but Brits don't - and they are driving on the other side of the road...

Update: my friend now has her German license! If anyone else would like to know how to do it, PM me and I will get you in touch with her.
