Now the weather has turned we cyclists can expect less interest from the local polizei. Hooray for clouds...

They are probably just starting to setup for 'Klassik am Odeonsplatz'

Yes, canuck. Those were the yearly open air concerts that take place there. Due to the ticketing nightmare of having only people within 500m earshot being paying customers, they fence off the area and keep everyone out during the shows.

Now that the concerts are over you can bike freely again in the area. Random blitzing by the police notwithstanding.

I have a photo of a cop in 'blitzing' action but can't be bothered to install the software at the moment to get it from my phone...

FYI: Checks were going on at Nymphenburgstr. this morning around 8:50 just outside Cinema München

There were some cops stopping cyclists on Rosenheimerstrasse yesterday. I walked by one dude who seemed to be getting cited for not having a light. I understand not having a light at night as possibly problematic, but what if the guy only cycles during the day? It seems odd to cite for no light during the day, but alas, there's not enough real crime here to keep 'em busy. I suppose that's a good thing.

The cops (not just the cycle stoppers, but also two guys with their Polizei car) also gave some straggly looking fellow the full rundown. They were searching his person and all his belongings. I've never been spot checked by police in Munich except the one time when I was walking with a friend who has long hair. Then they demanded our IDs and called them into the station for checking. Sad really.

I think it's great that the cops are cracking down on the cyclists. Having listened to them whinging on in the UK about how awful drivers are to them it was quite an experience to turn up here and discover that once they had their bike lanes they became as selfish and obnoxious as the motorists. There is rarely a day goes by that some cyclist doesn't leave me wishing I had a taser.

If they're in the cycle lane and you're on the pavement, where's the conflict?

Sounds like it was a bike shakedown today, they were giving some guy a ticket between hohenzollernplatz and bayernplatz today. Probably for running the red light there.
