Dear All,
Thank you all in advance for sharing your experience regarding life in Berlin. I would like to rent a small economy car in Berlin for two months, automatic transmission, GPS and child seats starting from June 15. Can you advise options that are not expensive. Regards.
Kay
Public transport.

Low Cost Car Rental - Insanely Cheap ...

A very good deal, except that a Smart wouldn't be the smartest choice for a family of five.

Yup, I agree! - use public transport instead! Easy and cheap, and driving in Berlin is apparently a nightmare. If you have to hire a car, all major companies are represented here in Berlin, and there are desks in all the airports here. Or look under "Autovermietung" in the Berlin Yellow Pages, called the Gelbe Seiten ... I expect you can access this online.

The OP did say a "small economy car", though, yeah, the Smart is the smallest of the small.

Sixt will rent to you for two months (you can price it out at sixt.de). Other car rental agencies may, I don't know. Make sure you pay for the collision insurance, because most credit cards won't provide coverage for rentals longer than 30 days.

Do you really need a car the whole time? Public transit is good, and then you can rent a car when/if you need one for a weekend or week or something.

Even the smallest and cheapest 5-seater "economy car" will cost the Professor at least 50% of his income, not to mention the current gas prices, inevitable parking tickets etc. ... time to check the BVG tariffs

Check out
http://www.robben-wientjes.de/. Cheapest place in Berlin to hire vehicles. No over the top paperwork. All you need is proof of where you live,
UK or European licence & you can hire without having to have a credit card, as most of them want these days, I think the deposit is 200 euros.
I always hire vans/cars from there & it takes about 5-10 mins & you're driving away. Best to go down there or ring them than use the website
if you are wanting specific times/miles etc.
Oh and driving in Berlin is a diddle, used to be a cab driver in London & here it's like driving in a village. Rush Hour? Yet to come across it!!

hasnt this guy mentioned - or alluded to the fact - in a previous post that he is handicap and walks with a limp/gimp? Must we chastise him?
