Does antifascist graffiti mean the area is bad?

The mess of graffiti aside, is a neighborhood OK?

If you see a lot of ANTIFA graffiti in an area - for example in Zeuthen (SE Berlin) I noticed a heck of a lot - does it indicate that the residents have anti-fascist sentiments, or that ANTIFA activists have targeted the area to daub 'f**k Nazis' everywhere because the locals have fascist tendencies?

I only ask because we might be putting in an offer on a house in Zeuthen, but I don't want to live in an area where the neighbours have regular lynching parties and sing the Horst Wessel Song into the early hours.

What do you think? What do you know ph34r.gif ?

My sense is that it would be the former, not the latter.

I agree. At least it is a sign that someone is on the right side. It is probably just the vandal's personal issue that they want to make public.
Just to add, I was shocked by how much graffiti there is everywhere here. Back in Los Angeles it translates to "welcome to the neighborhood. You will get robbed in ... 3...2...1..." but here, I think it pretty much just means that there are teenagers in the area with something to say.

MerrieLu: I was shocked by that, too. I kept thinking everywhere was a "bad" area because of all of the grafitti. Also, Berlin seems to have an aversion to trimming grass. Is that an environmental thing, lack of money or what? Everywhere is overgown. Between the vacant buildings, grafitti and out of control grass and weeds, I feel like parts of Berlin that are actually considered nice are run down. It's a shame because Berlin is such a great city.

why do you like your grass cut?

"i feel like parts of Berlin that are actually considered nice are run down" they are the nice ones

Amen to that.

The uncut grass, weeds, overgrown areas, and empty lots are a big plus! Part of the charm of Berlin is, for me, walking around and finding little bits of wild throughout the city.

As that's illegal, if your neighbors are doing so, you can speed dial the Polizei.

However... I think its showing some nasty prejudice to even say that. Lynching parties? Come on now...

Everyone on here goes on about the neo nazis. Not that I'm about to go dance through Marzahn, but I can honestly say that I've never had any encounters with them. On the other hand, I've had three horrible encounters with turkish/middle eastern men. The reasons they have cops in front of the synagogues isn't because of the neos, it's because of the muslims. I think you should be a little more afraid of someone treating you like shite because you aren't wearing a veil than from the football hooligans in Marzahn.

My 2p woth. Zeuthen form what I know of it is nice. I used to know people who lived there and they liked it there.

Zeuthen is a nice area. I mean Wildau is close and in Wildau there is a university with a lot of different people from other countries. But still, there are definetely more racists in the suburbs. I was born in the suburb of Berlin and I am not racist and I know that there are Turkish, Chinese and black people at the town where I was born and they have been living there for years. But still there are also some racists.
