Bild "Newspaper" gets all Christian

Or is it just the usual racist bollocks?

Usually the place for tits, football and exposés of Z-list Germans, Bild seems to have gone all Happy-Clappy. All their posters in Munich now seem to be advertising an family “Einheit edition of the Bible and their front cover today was an anti-Moslem tirade bordering on explicit racism. The Federal Environment Minister suggested maybe giving up a Christina Public Holiday and replacing it with a Moslem one. Not likely to happen at all really. But it didn’t stop Bild putting him in a turban and beard with a headline along the lines of “By the Beard of the Profit! Send him to the desert!

Didn’t really think they could ever sink lower but…………

today is "sin and pray for your souls" day. only celebrated in saxony though.

I saw the headline today. Whats wrong with a Muslim holiday? Isn't 5% of Germany Muslim and 1 Muslim holiday would be 5% of German holidays.

A Muslim holiday inshah Allah I say!

And all the better if our Muslim brothers share their food with us in celebration. I love eating. Come to think of it I have shared sunset feasts during Ramadan in Egypt. Oh dear being pretentious again.

I think the best option would be to get rid of all religious holidays (maybe apart from christmas and easter). A few bank holidays could just be scattered over the year. Surely it makes sense to have all bank holidays on Mondays. It works fine in England. If people of any religion want to celebrate any religious event like passover, pesach, ramadan they can take a day from their annual holiday.

So Konburg, rather than taking one day of holiday and getting a 4 day weekend, you'd rather only have a 3 day weekend, less often? And if you are going to get rid of all religious holidays, why not Christmas and Easter too? Doesn't make much sense to me.
boomtown_rat
surely it would hardly be less often? the public holidays don't always fall on a Tuesday or Thursday and you certainly don't get a four day holiday when the public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday. I think the Monday method is quite good myself
Hazza
Showem - I have to pull you up on one bit of your logic.

If there's a public holiday on a Monday, you still only need to take 1 day of leave for a 4 day weekend...
Showem
Ah, good point...

Still, a lot of people don't have to take an extra holiday, as their company closes on the Friday.

Boomtown, there are a couple of Easter-based holidays that always fall on a Thursday.

Quite the opposite me ol' china. We should celebrate them all. In Singapore, as well as as well as allowing the production of possibly the most awful 'beer' in the world, the government recognise shedloads of different religions, and you get loads of holidays as a result. Its great.
The Chinese still have not sorted out their calendars and want to celebrate new year a month late? Great, you get a day off.
A load of indian guys want to stick pins through their body? You get a day off.
Some muslims want to not eat, drink, or be merry? Nevermind, you get a day off.

Its fantastic.

true, well only about 2 I can think of but better than nothing. You'd still have a net gain if you shifted everything to the nearest Monday, especially compared to this year when about 6 have fallen on a weekend
Topsy
@ BTR - you are right, especially when you look at Christmas this year: the Brits get the 27th and the 28th as public holidays to compensate for the fact that Christmas & Boxing Day both fall on a weekend. And January 3rd. It's one of the few things the Brits do better, imho.
BobsAfro
I'm with showem. Not literally, you understand, just on the not making sense to keep Christmas and Easter if you drop religious holidays.

Yes you do. Okay, well I do. You are forced to take a day's holiday on the bridge day or window day or whatever you want to call the in-between day when the company closes.
grtho
If the Friday or Monday is a normal working day your employer CANNOT "force" you to take a holiday if you don't want to. This has been a sticky point in my firm for a while as the bosses (who aren't on flexitime) don't like it.
