Sad news: Scogs died at 2am this morning (May 30)

Andrew died at the Schwabinger ICU this morning at 2am due to complications after severe abdominal haemorrhages three weeks ago. These were in all probability caused by long-term consumption of ibuprofen in spite of a history of ulcers, malnourishment due to having half of his teeth removed or prepared for implants and a tendency towards booze instead of fruit juice. After initial stabilisation he took a turn for the worse and went into a state of shock. The doctors did what they could but there had been too much damage to kidney and liver due to blood loss. Other organs suffered as well, his chances of survival were slim, even partial recovery Utopian.

Two friends and I were with him in his last hours, holding his hands, chatting and laughing. I cannot express my gratitude to them for being there.

I am used to Andrew's being away on a contract. It will take a long time to sink in that this time he's not coming back. I did appreciate marka missing him, and anyone who made remarks that they might now consider inappropriate and callous - don't feel bad. I welcomed them as normality.

Hi Sara, somebody just called and informed me. People live on the Earth as long as their memory. Mine of Andrew will always be guitars, finance, humour, dealing with Dodgy 'arry and drinks in Planet M, Pippifax and The Beatles. He crammed in one hell of a lifetime into those years.

That is such shocking news. I come so close to meeting Scogs earlier in the year when he was up here in Düsseldorf, wish I'd have tried harder to find him in the pub. From one ex-Rockape to another, RIP. My very deepest sympathies Sara.

I'm really sorry about Scogs Sara. I don't think there's much any of us can say to help you feel better, but maybe in time our words will offer comfort. Andrew was always good company; friendly and full of laughs and life whenever I saw him.

I'm absolutely shocked to hear about this and very saddened. I often met Andrew, a lot in the days when I owned The Arc and even quite regularly afterwards. He was a top bloke, always good for a chat and I'll miss him.

Ah geez. Such an entertaining guy, and what a perfect fit you were for each other. It always made me happy to see you together. I'll miss him too.

I never met Scogs, but when I asked for advice on traveling to Saudi Arabia last year, he had me call him and gave me a ton of good advice on the phone. Really helped me feel a lot better about going. I figured I'd run into him at a TT event at some point and be able to buy him a beer as thanks. His help represented to me much of what is great about this community. I'm sorry I never met him and I'm sorry for your loss.

Scogs was a very lovely man indeed. I feel lucky to have had the chance to go out with the both of you on quite a few occassions and can't help but smile when I think of the laughs we shared. My thoughts are with you Sara.
