Hello there.
I'll be in Berlin next July, and because digital cameras and electronics in general are much more expensive here in Brazil (compared to US prices), I'm thinking about buying my digital camera (a full-size, not a compact one) when I arrive in Berlin.
I looked over the web, and found some stores specialized in photography, and some other stores that sell second hand cameras. But I was wondering if there are stores in Berlin that would be the equivalent to WalMart, or BestBuy, where I'd have even more base of comparison, to decide not only which camera to buy, but where.
Thanks a lot!

big electronic selling companies in berlin are media markt, saturn and medimax. but i don't think it's cheaper than in brazil cause of the high euro/dollar ratio. if you're lucky they have a great offer here, especially saturn and media markt are known for high prices of the basic assortment, but sometimes very low prices for special offers. there are several media markt and saturns here, the biggest are saturn at tauentzienstraße (europa center) and media markt in alexa, also nice is saturn at alexanderplatz. sometimes the prices even differ from one location (same store) to another.

Thanks!
And yea.. from what I have seen so far, I guess cameras there won't be cheaper than here. Actually, they're about the same price. =/

you can have a look at
www.guenstiger.de (for example), there are the cheapest internet prices in germany. they're about the same level as a super offer from media markt/saturn.

Ah! Great tip! These prices are way cheaper than the ones I've been finding in Berlin. I will probably buy from them.
My german isn't that good, so I couldnt find this information there: do they have an address, or they only deal with online sales?
Thanks again.

The most of them are only selling online and sometimes the ones who have a shop adress don't have the same prices in the shop as online. Good luck anyway! maybe there is a similar website for south america?

Ah, yea. Same happens here.
What we have over here, that I think is awesome, is websites that offer the service of price comparison. I go there, put the name of the product, and it returns me a list of all the major stores that have this product, with the price at each store.
(and while in the US the camera I want to buy costs about EUR$226, over here the cheapest store sells it for R$1300, which corresponds to EUR$509!)
