How about a 30somethings+ get-together before the year is up? The last one - good fun, good food, good turnup - was restricted to the 35+ but some of us were thinking, why not extend it to all 30somethings and over?
WHEN?
I was thinking either Sat. 4 or Sat. 11 December, but let's see who can make it when before fixing a date.
WHERE?
Now, a fellow TTer suggested - wholeheartedly at that - an Afghan restaurant called Lemar (see review: Lemar Afghan restaurant). I haven't been to test it, but I'm always game for trying something new (and I kind of like the idea of cushions). Anyway, according to her, the food is unusual, portions are good, the atmosphere pleasantly cozy, it's centrally located and caters for most budgets. Any other suggestions?
WHO?
Well, so far as I'm concerned anyone eligible for a 30s crisis - premature and delayed cases welcome.

Good idea! Do you remember that programme from a few years ago...'thirty something' and thinking wow...all those oldies and their lives are still screwed up!

Now I'm one of them!
Not too keen on Afghan food though...but let's get some feedback?

well hey, seeing as I suggested Lemar (it's FAB! FAB!) I would love to come on the 11th (will be away on 4th).
Need to prepare myself for the big 30, according to the under 25's each age group has different issues to discuss.. does this mean we will talk about baldness, grey hair and dirty nappies all night?!

@Helena I don't know what type of food you were served before, but Lemar is top.. I guess like a refined alternative to Indian food. It has things like pumpkin stewed in honey and ginger, served with sesame bread. Then lamb with saffron rice with orange which we didn't even get onto our plates, ate it straight off the serving dish... we were 7 people and shared all the dishes, and everyone was in heaven. Not to mention the place itself, warm , cosy with sofas and cushions and funky music... just a lovely evening.
Oh... and the best Mai Tai in Munich...

@ helena
well, the only Afghan food I've ever tried was at a tiny, shoebox-sized caff in Islington. I found it bland, but the menu was nothing like what JB describes. Whatever.

mmm, still not too keen, not just for my own personal tastes but because I would like to encourage as many people to come along as possible and to do this I think you have to appeal to wider tastes...If people don't like Afghan food they won't come, whereas I think most people will find something they like at an Italian or French restaurant...
Anyway, I'll go with the flow...if the majority or organiser decides upon it.

Nov 17 2004, 1:52 pm
well then it's easy, I drop out because I'm going there anyway next week, and you go to somewhere like Osteria la Vechia Masseria near
Sendlinger Tor. . Italian, safe.
Just - for the record - you should get this thread deleted, decide between yourselves where you want to go, then start a new one. People changing the thread organiser's plans can cause confusion and irritation for everyone trying to keep up.

Ouch! Sarcky! I thought 'Any other suggestions' (quote from organiser)...meant just that?
JoolyBooly
Nov 17 2004, 2:04 pm
er, no sarcasm intended, or any other intentions.
I've just been stung myself by offering to be open to suggestions, and the whole thing turning into chaos.
Now both of you have posted saying you haven't like the stuff you ate before, no-one will be keen to go there anyway so you may as well change to italian.
I don't know you and don't know how often you've been to TT events, that's why I mentioned the chaos theory to try to help. If I have another suggestion I PM the organiser to try to stop the thread going out of control.
Over and out.

As a 30-something and neophyte to TT, I'd be keen

the thread stays as is till more people respond.
@JB
oh do come! All I was pointing out to Helena was, that although my only experience of Afghan food was nothing special, what you describe sounds delicious. Meaning: there are good (e.g.) Indian restaurants and so-so Indian restaurants, same goes for Afghan, Italian - you name it.
@Helena: our first outing was at a Persian restaurant. Although Persian food is as non-mainstream as Afghan, that didn't put anyone off and I think everyone enjoyed it.

well, last time we talked about swingers' clubs and international terrorism, mainly - but we can be flexible

I could possibly come along on the 4th, but not on the 11th

re: location, personally I enjoy Afghan food but I can appreciate it might not be everyone's cup of tea

Is this night a GNO???
Afghan food sounds interesting and I've never tried it.
Would be up for meeting new folks and trying some new foods if this is open to anyone and a date gets set for the Afghan place.

I have no hair (by choice

) so could maybe give some insight into being bald.

@webmaster6 - no, it's not a GNO, so I'm sure you'd be more than welcome

actually, I'm sure people under 30 would be welcome as well

It is a GNO. Geriatrics Night Out.
Afghan food sounds good. Pity I am far too young. I will just have to wait for the mid-to-late 20s night out.

Nov 17 2004, 4:36 pm
we'll let you come along, Kza, we'll just take the piss out of you all night

anyway, it won't be long before you're 30, will it?

Count me in on 11th. Can't manage 4th. Afghan sounds ok. But I'm not too fussy - the company's more important than the food. Clubbing afterwards, Topsy? I think we two are the boppers ...
Topsy
Nov 17 2004, 4:45 pm
Would normally be up for a bop, but I'm not here on the 11th

hmmm... shall I complicate things by suggesting the 18th of Dec. as a third possible date, if more people can make it then?
Anyway: in the next couple of days I'll run again through the posts and see who can make it when, and who's allergic to Afghan food &c. so that we can, actually, go ahead and plan it.
@Kza
you can be an Honorary 30Something, if you like. We'll be supplying pots of Dramatically Wrinkly face moisturizer to any baby-faces, so don't you worry.
As the original post said, anyone feeling that special tingle of a 30s crisis is welcome. It can strike at 29, or at 60 for that matter, you know.

I may be keen to get out & try some Afghan food. I think the 11th will work, but I'll know better as the date approaches, so please put me down as a strong maybe right now.
Thanks.

I'd love to join, and the 18th would be best for me. It's right after payday and, as I'm always bitching about, I'm a pathetically poor student (cuz I'm too old to live like one and refuse to

). The 11th would be iffy, since it's just before payday.
I think the idea of Afghan food is great, since I've never had it. It'd be fun to try something new.

@ipj and all
Lemar is described as "preiswert" in the Mü. mags (I'm on a veeery modest budget myself, so you're in good company there). Anyway, I think I'll do a recce on the place as soon as I get the time, then will post more details at the weekend. Good to see that people like the idea!

well the stewed pumpkin starter is enough for a main course and costs EUR 5,95.
We shared 3 starters and 7 main courses between 7 of us and the food cost € 15 per head.

Would love to come but will be away alas---I did enjoy meeting the 35+ crowd and it would be good to broaden the age group and crowd in general. I will be in Munich this weekend and would love to get together for a drink if anyone interested---nice bar called Baal near my apartment just near Cinema--anyone interested? Ciao for now!

Mmmm, the drunken hijacking of this thread has also been removed!
Anyway, I really enjoyed the over 35 nights at the Persian place, so would like to come along again. Can make the weekend of the 4th, but not sure about the 11th yet (possibly!).
