The trick to seeing bands cheap in Germany I found, is to go and see them as soon as they get big in Briain and come over here trying to repeat their success in Europe. As soon as they start getting hits here the price rockets. I missed out seeing Snow Patrol a little while back, I bet if they return they'll cost similar money.

I detest this group and their music with a passion. Bunch of creeps playing creepy music. I especially hate the lead singer – saw him on TV recently severely assaulting a photographer just because he was taking photos of his beloved Gwyneth.

Coldplay is one of a small handful of bands that I would pay that much to see. Have to think about this one... So far this has been a Coldplay-bashfest, are there any other fans out there?
@BB-When you get followed around your entire life minute-by-minute with people shouting at you for photos and harrassing you in a myriad of ways, see if you don't lose your cool from time to time. I am surprised it doesn't happen more often.

How much for a ticket?! You could buy a 3 day festival ticket for that price and see 20 bands!
And yeah, you can't go comparing Coldplay to the Stones, a little bird tells me the Stones may have just a few more tunes than these boys.
I'd probably pay 25 Euros to see Coldplay, but I saw them way back in 1999 I think it was, playing to 150 at Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff

You can pay €10
here and see 34 bands over three days, have two days of Scottish and Irish sporting events, watch the Footie Thingie on a big screen, swim in a lake, camp for free and spend the time in the fresh air on a fine big organic farm. Isn't that right PB?

I hate cold play, but if any of you are planning on going to see them @ the southside festival and want to save some cash:
If you only want to go on June 20th for Radiohead, I only want to go on June 21st for NOFX...we could split the cost of the damn 110 euro ticket and both have a great show...it'd work perfect if you're a couple people as my fiance would love to come too...hell, all interested, post, maybe there's a bunch of us that can work something out.
Southside festival anyone?

Well, Madonna tix range from about 80 Euro to 200. I remember in Australia U2 tickets were going up to $200 AUS for Reserve A seats (probably about...120 Euro?). And Alison Krauss / Robert Plant tix in Sweden top tier were 690 SEK (about 75 Euro), so I think it's about on par.
Coldplay don't offend me, I don't mind their music, and I'd probably go see a show, but it's a little too pricey for me though at the moment, given I've pretty much blown my summer concert budget. They're one of those bands that kind of sneaks up on you with a "they're not 'cool', but they're also not horrible either". Like I'm not going "I can't WAIT for the new Coldplay", but I would say "Hey, Oasis is back in the studio. Cool."

Here goes another classic TT merry-go-round... but what the hell. Some bloke wants to make some music, and make some money off it... in the meantime, he meets an awesome girl, who happens to make movies. They get married and spit out a piece of fruit or two. So this gives the right to every person on the planet to have instant access to them and their lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? To be stalked like gazelles on the Serengeti? I don't think so. As I said above, you walk in their shoes for a month or so and see if the paparazzi madness doesn't drive you to the brink. Go on then, I dare you.
And back to the concert... €60 - 80 seems to be the going rate for any world-class bands these days. Sad but true. As I only go to a concert about once a year or so, I can see justifying the ridiculous costs. Of course I remember, back in the day, seeing 4 top-class bands for $20, but such are not the times anymore...
EDIT: And I paid €90 for floor seats at U2 two years ago (or was it three already...?, the Vertigo tour anyway) and I would have paid three times as much. But then U2 are only the best band on the planet, after all...

EDIT EDIT: And for the record, I do think Chris Martin is a bit of a cunt, but he writes incredible songs and has one of the best falsettos in modern times. And a girl always loves a good falsetto, I say.

Middle of the road, depressing shite. A bit like Radiohead in the 90s. All their stuff sounds the same, each album has 1 - 2 good songs and the rest is cack.

I like Coldplay a lot, but not enough to pay that sort of money.
Also depends upon how long they'll still be a touring band for. A Schweinshaxe, a vintage Lolo ball, some scoops and taxi-fare now compared to xxxxyoyos when you have to be ferried in the special needs entrance when you're 90 and they're barely fit to hold their instruments. An admittedly tough choice. You'll admit they are one of the few younger bands that one can utter in the same breadth of scale as U2, REM, et al. They're big. When the likes of the Stones, The Who, U2 even are beyond the Pale of performance, who'll replace them? Coldplay is one of the few bands to approach that level. Snow Patrol too. Also, Pink Floyd are a jaded, long overdue shite of self-indulgent rich boy effluvium that occasionally hits the mark. Oh sorry was I being subjective? But each to his own.
In other news, my intention for posting this thread was purely informational. So there. I'm not even that much of a fan. Just thought that one or two of the one or two who read this site might find the information helpful. Bear out.

Ditto, but that was because their concert was canceled. A little while back in my case being in November 2006, they were going to play in Ludwigshafen (couldn't go to Munich just for a concert on the first day of classes of the semester), and I couldn't believe my luck and then they canceled the remainder of their tour (of course after already playing in Munich). I think I had paid between €20 and 25 for the ticket, and then I had to return it, I was sad. I like Coldplay, but I don't think I'd pay €80 for any concert.

Wouldn't the 'king of melancholy' be James Blunt??
We really like coldplay. And they're even better in person - good show, nice/funny guy when chatting with the audience, and great music. Won't be able to see the show though, due to timing. But we would have paid top dollar to get good seats.
Have fun to anyone who goes. They are worth it.

we saw them a few years back at OlympiaPark, then saw em again at the Isle of Wight festival, they're very good live.

i would only pay that kind of money for radiohead, maybe. they were good at making melancholy songs but now they're not even good at doing that. their only good album was parachutes and they keep going downhill from there music wise, yet chris bashes that album and thinks it's rubbish - he's rubbish! x&y clearly blew, i just hope the new one is drastically better than the last

heard the new album yesterday, all songs more or less sound too contrived for me to love them, definitely not paying that kind of money to see those guys live at a concert.
but i reckon the record will sell billlions and everyone will love it, because omg its coldplay and they've gone experimental

To be in with a chance of winning, just email your name and address to competitions@coldplay.com before Saturday September 13th. One entry per person, please. And it's not really worth entering unless you know can make it along to one of the shows (the prize is just the tickets).

We went to the show in Köln on September 12. Good show, but I would really like for it to have been longer. I don't think they were on stage for two hours, including the encore. We saw them in Verona in 2005 when I was on R&R from my deployment and they had a much longer show. I blame the opening act; they were late, then went on too long, and I think Coldplay had to cut their act short in order to be in Hamburg the next night. Or maybe we were just spoiled by the R.E.M. show in Würzburg on 22 August -- they played without a break for over three hours.
The opening act (Albert Hammond, Jr.?) was an arrogant ass -- he kept talking down to the crowd. "Thank you, and thanks to Coldplay for having us. Or maybe just thanks to Coldplay." I mean, what the hell? People were paying attention and applauding, but for crying out loud, you're an opening act. Open, play, and get the hell off the stage so we can see who we paid for.
