Badminton @ RSC Nymphenburg

Hiya all, I phoned the badminton place and got another court.
So there are 3 courts currently booked, 7 of you guys, plus me, plus some of the regulars.
Meeting time/place is this Thursday at the RSC near Hirschgarten at 7.30 - does everybody know where that is? Public transport - your best bet is the 16/17 tram, leaves from Karlsplatz/Hauptbahnhof, get off at Steubenplatz.

Can you please let me know by midnight tomorrow night if you are coming or not?
We've booked the court now, and we have to pay for it if we don't cancel by Wednesday lunchtime.

You can buy shuttlecocks there, but I'm sure you won't need to.
If you don't have a racket you can hire rackets there (bring your ausweis and enough cash to leave a deposit).
People usually stay for a drink and maybe a pizza after playing.
We split the cost of the courts between the people playing, so it usually works out at between €6.50 and €9 for the hour.

I'm in... so do folks here play fairly regularly? Reason I ask is that if this is a few times a year thing then I don't think I'd buy a racket... but if it's a few times a month then it's worth getting. Look forward to it!

we average 1/2 times a week.

this booking on thursday is a standing booking, they play every week, and I'm sure you would be welcome to join them ongoing if you feel you would like to.
I guess if you are not sure, then hire a racket on thursday, and if it's as much fun as you remember then go buy one at the weekend

Yowza! 14! I wouldn't have thought there are 14 Badminton players in all of Munich, let alone ones that speak English (I think there are about 14 in the entire US).

Maybe I'm just insane (well I know that) but this just blows me away... a pleasant surprise. Heck, we could start a mini-leauge!

we need to know for sure by tomorrow evening who is definitely coming, and who isn't. So far I've got definites from:

I haven't heard from the regulars yet. But we have 3 courts, so we should be OK.

It's not a one-shot deal, btw - we play every week, so if you can't make it this week, then come along next week (let us know, b4hand tho!). Course, if you come this week and enjoy it, you can join in next week as well.
We just do need final numbers tomorrow so we can make sure we get the right number of courts.

It will be the first time I will meet people from the Toytown Munich group and burn calories at the same time. Cool!

Does the place have changing rooms (or do we just wear gym clothes there)?

@ anabi, it's a proper sports centre with changing rooms etc.
it's quite a big place, they have a fitness studio and loads of squash courts as well.

Very cool... I am totally excited (and would like to check this place out)... I'm even leaving work early today to go get my equipment.

What is the meeting point (RSC or hauptbahnhof) ??

OK, I've PM'd everybody my number, so just give me a call if you need me.
I'll be at the RSC from about 7.35 onwards. I'll wait downstairs in the bar section for a while, probably will sit at the tallest round table nearest the entrance.
I only know Ume and Anabi, so I hope we'll find each other, I'm sure we will.
If not, then just go get changed (use the upstairs changing rooms) and then find the badminton courts that are upstairs - we've got 3 out of the 4 courts, so I'm sure you will find us there.

Hi, just thought I'd let you guys know that a few regulars added themselves in at the last minute so there are now 16 of us playing tomorrow. That means we've got the whole of the upstairs badminton section
Regarding changing rooms etc - everybody can get changed there, the place is a regular sports club with changing rooms and even a sauna, all included in the price.

I think its better we meet at the tram stop Steubenplatz at say around 7:15 instead of searching for each other. I have not been to this place before... so would be nice if we can meet up in the tram stop before. What do you guys say?

How about 7.30?
Meet there (at Steubenplatz tramstop) between 7.25 and 7.35 - that gives people a chance at 3 different trams, they're every 5 mins that time of night. It'll only take us 5 minutes to walk to the sports center, so we'll have plenty of time to get changed.
If anybody turns up after 7.35 and can't find the place, then you all have my handy number, right?

Hi, Ravski - did you mean Rotkreuzplatz? I think you can get the 12 tram from Rotkreuzplatz to Romanplatz then you can get the 16/17 from Romanplatz heading towards town from there, and get off at Steubenplatz (it's maybe one or max two stops from Roman- to Steubenplatz).
Or get the 33 bus from Rotkreuzplatz to Donnersbergerstr and change onto the 16/17 heading away from town towards Steubenplatz.
Don't ask me how long it would take though.

Rosie, I didn't count you, you didn't get back to me. But if you want to you can come, then we are 17 people. 17 is OK, we just have to rotate who sits out, nobody should be sitting out for very long with 17 people on 4 courts.

Okay, Tram stop at 7:30 (and I have the handy number in case I'm lost). By the way in all the wonderful services there do they also have lockers with locks or do we need to bring our own lock (like in the US).

I haven't even played yet and I'm all badminton now! I wanna change my screen name to BirdieMan... guess there's no way to do that.

they have lockers with locks, but you need a coin.
don't know which coin, sorry.
I'm sure someone will sort you out with an appropriate coin, though.

just let me know either on this thread or via PM if you want to play this coming Thursday (14.Oct.2004). I probably won't be there (it's my strategy exam that day), but I'm sure you won't miss me too much just for one week
So far I think it's Ravski, Ume and Ume's +1 playing (plus a bunch of regulars).
They've provisionally booked 3 courts from 8-9pm, but we need confirmation of numbers by Tuesday evening so we know whether to cancel one/book an extra one.
