welshdragon, 5 is fine and much better than 4. (6 being the maximum). we play doubles and if you play for 2hours, getting a short break once in a while is rather nice imo.
edit: saw that we have 6 sign ups. we are full now and reservations are closed.
see you all tomorrow

It would be nice to meet you all there.
Colin, you touched an interesting topic of cancellations.
1. Who tends to pay for the court
2. What is the cancellation period
3. Has a rule been defined if someone cancels and there are odd numbers on the court
4. The shuttle cock we played with was crap - I dont mind chipping in to get some more as the cock was wonky and the flight was strange as we discussed.
5. Also do you have the same court all the time or does it change, there were shots played where we were obscured by the lighting.
6. I dont mind paying up front for a few weeks and if I cancel then tough shit on my side, at least you can stop the cancellation/finance issue as its not fair on the person who pays to chase things up-
7. Also what happened to our casual drinks when we use to play afterwards. What are peoples opinions about a quick pint or snack. There are many who I will not meet up in any other events.
I lead a sad life...
For those who dont know me...you will

considering you are now down to 5, is that ok with everyone if i cancel? I guess there will be only 1 court anyways. I caught a nasty bug and been feeling off all day so I'd rather give it a miss. Sorry. hope to join next time. If it´s not possible, I'll see what i can do or pay my part.

Hi again.
I'm not able to playing again this week.
I hope the 4 left are all going to be there, because otherwise someone will end up wasting time and / or money again!
Last week nobody played: Adam was the only one to turn up in the end.
The sports centre have kindly halved the payment we owe for last week, from €48 to €24: someone will have to pay them tomorrow, as well as the €48 for this week. Ravski, can you take care of things please? They won't be so generous next time, by the way.
I think Bangalorean and Currean have to pay for last week, i.e. €12 each, as they were the ones who pulled out at the last moment. Currean has already offered to pay, I will chase that up.
I think it is clear from the web site that the deadline for booking is 12:00 on the Wednesday; people really should not pull out after that, it is unfair on all the others.
Ravski, in answer to some of your queries:
1. I tend to pay for the court if I'm there; if not, someone else will have to. People usually use their initiative!
2. What is the cancellation period: 24 hrs, hence the booking deadline of Wed. 12:00. I have been looking after it, but I will ask someone else to when I can't. Maybe you could do it next week, when I can't make it either?
3. Has a rule been defined if someone cancels and there are odd numbers on the court: Depending on numbers we take turns, if there are a lot, we can often book another court. If anyone cancels after the deadline, then they are liable for any costs! e.g. if 4 sign up, then 1 cancels, then he has to pay the €48 if the others don't play.
4. The shuttle cock we played with was crap - I have more shuttles we've bought, we chose them by consensus. Someone else had better take one tomorrow.
5. Also do you have the same court all the time or does it change - We always have No. 6
6. I dont mind paying up front for a few weeks - Have a word, see if you can encourage the others: the alternative could well be that we have to cancel the whole thing!
I'll try to get more info put on the web site.
It is really touch and go whether we'll continue this summer: please try to help keep it going!
Colin.

I am a bit confused here. Why is it touch and go? Did we not agree in April that we will wait for a permanet booking once the summer comes to an end as we from years of experience by now are aware that during the summer getting the numbers together can be difficult? Is Sport4U saying we cannot have the 'free'booking?
When it was really hot, nearly all badminton courts were empty. They should be pleased if anyone plays in that very hot and stuffy hall.
The most important thing is the we stick to the sign up rules. I am sorry for any convience i have caused by cancelling after 12pm yesterday. i didn't have a choice. (out of experience, once 6 have signed up, one cancellation is tolerable.)
btw, i am away next week.

Planetmonie - Through my previous experience even before sport4U summer was a break normal for many as it was very difficult to get the numbers and pain in the ass for the financer to fork out the money knowing that many people may not turn up due to holidays etc.
I agree to your point about getting a discount though as hardly anyone uses the courts during summer. Maybe something you can chase up about. As your not playing for a few weeks it would give you somthing to do
But with my other clubs I am associated with there are a core of 5 people who book a court for four weeks in advance and it works well so if someone does cancel not a big deal plus the financer does not have to chase around too much. If this is not possible then the existing system will have to do but the financer we carry the responsibility.
I am more than happy to pay in advance for bookings for my share.

Jul 11 2008, 8:30 am
Cheers for the game - we eventually ended up with three players so any cancellations that were made did have an impact.
Colin I paid for the court for yesterday and last week.
Receptionist mentioned that its the third time the courts have been cancelled hence the reason why she is charging.
We played some games of single and alternated around however doubles would be better though, and yes it was warm

are you in charge of badminton now and telling me what to do? what makes you assume that i have nothing to do?
not sure i am happy about your assumptions and comments. i don't think it's funny (as your smiley suggests.)

that's exactly we (nomis, IW, colin and myself) did for the autumn/winter period. we paid for a 6 months abonment in advance in order to secure a booking. if you look at the thread archiv, you will find that getting more than extra courts on a thursday eve between 7-9pm has proven very difficult. maybe you know better.

Planet Moni - you should know the people before making such statements...
You had a dig earlier at Colin now me claiming we are taking over. Why, Are you saying that, are the governer and knowone is entitled to an opinion for the good of the group.
Knowone owns the badminton group - its collective team effort, bouncing ideas and opinions is all part of the prcess - you seem to be in TT long enough to know that. Lets not treat this event like the
Curry night out.
Your Quote: Is Sport4U saying we cannot have the 'free'booking?
Hence the comment about the discount. I think the cheeky smile says it all with regards to the discount. If you wish to interpret things differently then thats up to you. People who know me understand what that means.
I hope we can move on from this and work TOGETHER and collectively make decisions...unless you think otherwise.
We had a nice time playing badminton yesterday.

hi there, just a quick piece of advice if I may: These kind of "online debates" bring nothing but trouble; just talk the issues face to face. I used to play with your group for some months and the atmosphere was great, and I would like to come back one day and have something to come back to
Ravski
Jul 11 2008, 10:50 am
Great point Calin - I think some accusations have been made that were a bit direct, we all want to move on and have a nice time.
Try telling the curry mob that...
I just want to have fun playing and meeting people...
For the sake of the group it would be best to have a few posts removed as it gives a negative feel to the event when actually people in reality are really nice.
I will mentioned this to TT moderators...

Hi,
I'm glad that the three had a good time playing on Thursday.
As I said, let's hope we can keep this going over the Summer, but we'll have to see.
As Planetmoni said, the main thing is that people accept their commitment when they sign up, and try to avoid letting the others down, especially when it means that someone has to pay for courts which were not used.
Ravski, thanks very much for sorting things out last week. I assume the finances are now OK, apart from the €12 you are owed by Currean (who has signed up for next week): I have sent her a PM too.
Ravski, could you organise things next weeek, I am away? Or sort things out with Texins, maybe: Planetmoni is away too, I see.
All the best,
Colin.
