Badminton @ RSC Nymphenburg

So, 11 signed up for 1 court, brilliant! I think 6 is the max.
I'm afraid it'll have to be those that have paid for the abo, i.e. IW, Nomis, Plantemoni and myself: my +1 won't come now.
And for the rest, it should be first come, first served: the first 2 of the rest were AdamL and Penelope P.
Sorry to the others, try again next time.
There's not much hope of more space in future weeks, pretty much everything is booked up, I'm afraid.
We're trying to get the web site updated to give a better impression of the situation.

Can't we try to find another place for future then? What about the Badminton center in Nymhenburg? It is really nice, have many courts, swimming pool, saunas, nice restaurant... always some free courts???

Would be great that also more people could join?

Or could we not split into two groups when very busy - i.e. 7.15-8.15 and then 8.15-9.15?

here is some background information:

we have been looking for new courts since the summer, as the RSC closed down. free badminton courts are rare in munich especially from 7pm-10pm, weekdays. we have been to the badminton center in nymphenburg but getting more than 1 court is really difficult. it doesn't make a difference which sport center really.
we then decided to go to sports4U. the only way of getting a permanent booking was if we (5 of us) bought a membership with a court subscription for 6 months, otherwise they would not give out permanent bookings. this means we have one court every week for 2 hours which has already been paid for by some of us.

before christmans ie october, november and december, we always booked a second court 2 weeks in advance in order to offer more places. a lot of times, we had to cancel those courts. i am sure colin has tried to make reservations for this week and next but as the holidays are over and people start going back, demand is high and there is nothing we can do. please don't think we don't want to get more people. we will work out a system on how to ensure the places but i guess we were also overwhelmed with the sudden demand.

i am sure the 4 of us will talk about the court situation tonight and see what we can do as it is in our interest to have as many people playing as possible. the more the merrier.

as to the suggestion to play 1 hour. personally,i wouldn't. the sports center is out of the way and for 1 hour it is simply too far. playing doubles for 1hour is not exhausting enough anyway.

As mentioned previously I can't make it this Thursday as I'm in London for a work related "performance review". :-(

I'm sure your performance review will go fine as long as they don't give you anything on your back hand.

We do indeed have 1 court 19:15-21:15, plus one extra 20:00 to 20:30, so 6 would be good, i.e. the 6 that have booked up to now!

Hey...I've recently moved to Munich and will be here for 6 months. I was looking for somewhere to play badminton and it seems this is the perfect place! Only problem is I've left my racket and trainers at home... I shall bring them back when I fly home next and pop along to your session if thats ok?? I play at uni and for a league team...although I haven't picked up a racket for about 5 months now so I probably wont be great! I'll pop down next month if I pluck up the courage! Is that ok? Whoops... seems like i have been ejected out of the list, though my name is still on the reservations page. Since this is my first time, please let me know if i would get to play. I would love to get started, but if that is not possible i guess that is okay ). Please let me know though before i get there.

I needed to know how i find the group, i mean which courts etc. Do i need to register at the reception ?

Come to the main sports hall, I can't remember the court number but we're directly through the door.

As usual, we will be on court number six tonight. There is no need to register at reception. The changing rooms are downstairs.

I just read through the archives and realised why i was on the subs even though i registered. Perhaps it may make sense to explain that on the registration page. So that someone else like myself does not feel they are bumped off even if they have registered.

I was also wondering if it makes a difference to our court availability, i could pick up a membership on the lines as planetmoni had mentioned in the post on Jan 17, 2008. Do let me know, i would be happy to contribute (also that hopefully i can play more regularly)

Ok slight change in the rules after reading up a little. Turns out in doubles each team only gets one hand once they win their serve. So now you know.
