why? they make you want to hit it harder so you can hear the swooooooosh and then hear the awwwwww and so you play better?

every week, i usually get a least one in my face so the 'hitting harder' part would really damage my lovely face.

Well, we weren't very impressed with the tube of feather shuttles I brought along a couple of years ago. They really do only last one game and you're left with a load of debris on the court. Personally I prefer pastic shuttles. Though there is something nice about the weight of feather shuttles and the way they fly - it's quite different.
I'll see if I've any left and will bring them along tonight.

I agree feathers are more hassle than they are worth, though fun occasionally. I remembered the shuttles so we have a few better ones.

just for those who didn't play yesterday, you missed some great games.
and the RSC is closing down on 31st May 07...
TT Badminton needs a new venue.

Sorry I was so tired last night... though there were some good games going on, it was nice to be able to play singles as I haven't played in a very long time!
Does the Olympia stadium have badminton courts (the place where the swimming pool and gym are).
Ã? presume RSC is closing for refurbishment, and will re-open again after a few months? Or it went bust & they have to close until a buyer is found? Or they're going to demolish it & build something else in its place? Either way, we'll need a new home.
BTW I don't expect to be playing again until 31/5 - if there's a venue.

trust my german skills guys!
If they're going to demolish the building then all the sports equipment will have to go somewhere. Keep an eye on their shop in case they have a 'closing down' sale - we could stock up on cheap shuttles.

WHAT???!!! Wow, that's a bit of a shock - end of an era. Many happy memories of badminton over the last 15yrs playing there. Not many other possibilities either for centrally located badminton courts. Best bet is probably Nypmphenburg...only a few stops further on the tram!

So we need to find a new home for Thursday night badminton.
There is this place, which is just a couple of stops further up on the tram from RSC. Have been there in the past, indeed its where we used to play on Sundays, and the facilities are great.
Park Club Nymphenburg Squash Center
Stievestr. 15

There also seems to be another place we could try, which is pretty central. Its about 10 mins on the u-bahn from
marienplatz. These guys have 8 courts available.

Five people this week so I telephoned RSC and told them that we need only one court (number 39) for this Thursday.
There was an announcement at the start of the telephone call that they now close at 6pm on Feiertage. Since next Thursday (17th May) is a public holiday we will not be able to play at 7pm that day.

I visited Sports4You to see how it compares to RSC.
Public transport options are U3 to
Obersendling then 10 minutes walk, or 53 (
Muenchner Freiheit), 133 (Rottkreuzplatz) buses just around the corner from the sports centre. Sports4You has a car park too.
The courts are less expensive during the summer -- a bit cheaper than RSC and the lady at the front desk told me that there should be no problem getting courts at short notice. OTOH, the courts are more expensive than RSC in the winter and it is not possible to get a court at short notice.
The sauna is included in the price too.
I asked about getting a Dauerauftrag but have to wait for one of their admin people to contact me.
The sports centre is single storey, open plan, with a small bar, and a shop where you can hire a racket.
It looks OK to me so let's try playing there after RSC closes and see how it goes...

I told RSC sports centre that we only need one court this week.
Next Thursday (31.05) is the last day that RSC is open so after that we have to play elsewhere -- Sports4You in
Obersendling seems OK so we will be giving that a try.

There is no Sunday badminton tomorrow. And there has been no Sunday badminton for many months.
But we do currently play on Thursdays from 7-9pm, as described above with the people signing up on the Thursday Reservations sign-up page so that we know how many courts to book.
Unfortunately, the sports centre at which we have been playing every Thursday has just closed so we are switching to a new venue. Next week we are planning to play at the Park Club in Nymphenburg (Stievestrasse 15) instead.

@IW: I take it "too" is used in the sense of "instead"...
Sorry, can't make it on Wed this week, next week looks OK, though: Have a good time!
The other thing is, for the record, I am holding the €38 deposit from the RSC at the moment.
So, this week are we in for playing in on Wednesday evening or on Thursday ? We might have to call the Park Club Nymphenburg and arrange for courts.

I'll update the thread and stuff over the weekend I reckon, depending on how everyone likes our new home.
