Oh and I forgot one...we can rent rackets, right?
Topsy
Oct 19 2004, 10:14 am
@ ellewood - glad you can make it

@ trouble - why don't you pm ravski? he quite often turns up a bit early and goes in the gym, I think. if you want to get there early and do that, maybe you can sort something out with him. not sure how legit it is, but I don't think anyone yelled at him yet

the court costs about 27€, so the total cost of all the courts is split between the number playing (sometimes we have an odd number of players, so we rotate who sits out). that means you end up paying between €6 and €9 for the hour. yes, you can rent rackets there, there are changing rooms and lockers and everything. there's even a nice bar where they serve tasty pizza so you can put back on all the weight you just burned off

@ trouble / anyone else - Please let me know by tonight if you are definitely going to be able to join us. If you can't come then please also let me know (if poss by Wednesday eve, so that we can cancel a court if necessary).

Oct 19 2004, 12:27 pm
well, it varies, I suppose.
we are quite competitive, but I'm not sure we're that good. well, I'm not.
I've only ever really played with these people, so it's a bit difficult for me to judge. What do the others think? I'm a bit useless at judging things like that.

Oct 19 2004, 12:36 pm
OK, I just checked with the organiser, and we can't get more than 2 courts this week

so we are full now with the 6 Toytowners for this week.
we've got first refusal on any cancellations that come in at RSC, so if a court becomes available I'll post it on here.
Hopefully we'll be back to 3 courts next week.
Cheers

Hi, great - then we have Anabi and Xargon, and that's it, we'll have to close again. One of the courts is downstairs so far, so we will have to kind of decide on the night who plays downstairs and who is upstairs. Unless we can arrange a swap.
Here's the final list of Toytowners:
1. Rosie
2. Ume
3. Ravski
4. Topsy
5. Ellewood
6. Trouble
7. Anabi
8. Xargon
@ Trouble & Xargon - are you OK with finding the place? Do you know how to get there, or do you need picking up at the tram stop?
You can hire a racket there, but dunno what it costs. Bring some ID along as well, if you remember.
See y'all on Thursday

So much activity on this thread. I was busy at work all day (for a change).
My previous +1 (Sai) and +2 (Manoj) will not come this time because of different reasons but I can try a +3 (newbie) to give it a try.
If there is no taker till tomorrow 10am then I will ask him.

7. Anabi

RH - are you coming by tram? Do you want meeting at the tram stop? It's never a bad idea for first timers, it's not the easiest of places to find in the dark.

OK, get the 16 or 17 tram (from Hauptbahnhof or Karlsplatz) heading towards Romanplatz (16) or Amalienburgstr (17).
Try to get the train that leaves from
Hauptbahnhof at quarter past 7pm.
Get off at Steubenplatz (it's about 7 or 8 stops from Hauptbahnhof) and I'll meet you there. I'll PM you my handy number, so you can give me a tinkle if need be.
See you tomorrow

Oct 20 2004, 11:42 am
Hi All,
I am not sure if all of you would be interested, but there is a system some badminton clubs use to mix the players around during the selection process.
Its a peg selection system where each player has a peg. The pegs are spread across in a row. The first peg chooses three other players to play with out of the first six.
Its a simple idea but effective. It not only gives some players the opportunity to play with a certain groups of people initially, but it also avoids the exclusion of certain people.
Let me know what you if this concept is not feasible.
Topsy
Oct 20 2004, 11:46 am
Hi, I don't get it... maybe I'm being a bit slow today.
Maybe we can talk about it tomorrow? So we can involve the "regulars" before we start changing their system
Ravski
Oct 20 2004, 11:54 am
Topsy - this was only a suggestion to TT initially and not not something TT should enforce until the regulars have an opinion too. I agree.
But there is nothing wrong in getting a general opinion as I have no contact with the regulars.

If people say its crap Ravski, get a life then fine.
Topsy
Oct 20 2004, 11:58 am
no, no problem in making suggestions - I just didn't get it.
Maybe I am being slow today, I had to go to the Hofbräuhaus with work yesterday

so that's my excuse.
So I thought it might be easier to explain in person.
But if I'm the only one who doesn't get it, then I'll just shut me trap and watch you guys discussing it

God... I did not realize Murphy plays badminton! Started a fever last night and feel like El Crapo this AM... leaving work to go back to bed.
I don't think I'll be able to leave my bed today, let alone run around a court.
If the slot doesn't get taken, I'll still "cough" up to cover the slot I took.
Have fun everyone and wish I could be there smashing some birdies (well at least diving for them)
