@xargon
We play every Thursday, 8-9pm in the place near Hirschgarten:
Fit Factory RSC
Wilhelm-Hale-Str. 45
80639 München - Nymphenburg
tel: 089 / 13 99 13 10
fax: 089 / 13 99 13 32
Public means of transport: Tram 16/17 Steubenplatz Get off at Steubenplatz and walk up Wilhelm-Hale-Str., first right after the Tankstelle (there's a sign pointing you there - it's a lane usually lined with parked cars with tall hedges on either side). The tram takes about 10 minutes from
Hauptbahnhof, and they run about every 5 minutes on the way there.
A decent racket cost around 15-25€. You can buy a racket from kaufhof or Walmart. You can also hire a racket at the club (no idea about the rent)

Hi Xargon, all the info where we play, can you hire a raquet there etc, is under this thread:
Badminton in Munich - read this and the subsequent posts, and you should find most info there.
Have a think and let me know by Tuesday if you want to give it a whirl.
Cheers

Hiya, you just need to let me know if you're coming and I'll pass it on.
I'm wavering a little and thinking that I might come after all... it might be a good way to recover from the exam, actually

Re: payment, you just pay John in the bar afterwards (or before you leave if you can't stay for a drink).
so that's five of you so far, cool

deadline is Tuesday night.
Maybe see you guys on Thursday.
Topsy
apart from studying for the next day exam everything is a good to recover...

Hi,
I had such a blast last week... for those who wish to play it's a great time and workout.
By the way this week we have a big work party so I won't make it. Last week after I changed and went down I couldn't find you folks (though I had no contact lenses on so...). I was in a bit of a rush so I had to split. Anyway, I owe someone some money and want to make sure that it gets into their hands at some point.

@ravski..
Was pretty bad during the weekend...
one side of my back hurt real bad.. was totally stiff...
but now its ok... i guess diving a lot to return ur shots the very first day took its toll...
shd get better with subsequent practice...
unfortunately i can come for one more session and then its a three month break for me...
Ravski
Oct 12 2004, 3:28 pm
@eletrobuzz - shame your not going to be around, it always takes a few sessions for all those muscles to adapt.
No pain no gain.
To all: which shuttles did you all like playing with. I can bring my Yonex 360 again. It was the yellow ones.
electrobuzz
Oct 12 2004, 3:31 pm
how much does an actual feather cork cost here?
if its not too expensive... just we pool some money and buy some.
Its always great to play with them instead of plastic ones...
last time I brought 6 yellow shuttles and in the end I had 7...
does anyone lost 1 yellow shuttle?
Ravski
Oct 12 2004, 3:39 pm
Feathers are an option but the pace of the game will be alot faster and it will take a bit more time to adjust to because of the flight. Serving can be a nightmare.
Also they tend to break easily. Your timing tends to drift because different speeds and weights of shuttles are used.
If you want to improve your reflex then feathers can be used. Beware that you might ache a lot more the next day.
ellewood
Oct 12 2004, 3:40 pm
yes! it was mine! i like that one as it's quite fast. but the feather ones are even faster ;-)

electrobuzz
Oct 12 2004, 3:55 pm

now around 2
I also like FEATHER! FEATHER! FEATHER!... but they dont even last for 2 games...

@Ravski
It cant be yours. Its not Yonex 360.
I will bring it on Thrusday.
aching factor 3. I guess I didnt play good shots
Topsy
Oct 12 2004, 4:02 pm
Hi all, I was aching factor 7 over the weekend, now I back to zero and ready for some more aches and pains

Re: pooling resources to buy shuttlecocks, the regulars do that already, but I don't think they do it often enough - the shuttlecocks they had were pretty crap, weren't they?
We should sort something out this week maybe.
Shame you are not going to be around electrobuzz, hopefully you'll be going somewhere where you can practise?
I'm thinking more and more that I'll try and make it this week - at the moment there are 11 people, so if I come then it will be to make it a nice round number

Topsy
@Topsy
Its tuesday eve. can you post the final list of players...??
electrobuzz
Oct 12 2004, 4:06 pm
@topsy
Don't think i can practise back home... all my friends are busy working even during the weekends..

(blame the IT companies...)
But i'll be back by the end of Jan next year and shd be here in munich for another 3 years atleast... so loads of badminton from next year on...

Oct 12 2004, 4:17 pm
OK - I think we have the following:
1 Ume
2 Ume +1
3 Ume +2
4 Ellewood
5 Ravski
6 Electrobuzz
7 Mbangura
8 me
Mbangura, do you know how to get there, or do you need us to meet you on the way?
Cheers
Dee
PS no feather! Ellewood's serves were too fast for me as it was, without the extra speed of feather!!!
ellewood
Oct 12 2004, 4:35 pm
@ Ume
that extra shuttle cock has to be mine. i whipped it out to play in the first game coz i thought it was a bit faster than the one we were using. yellow with a white end and red trim, no? forgot to take it with me when i left u all playing. but no worries, we can use it thursday. i may get some feather ones but it's true, they last all of two minutes. best not to chop and change though as your serve goes AWOL.
has anyone else noticed how when u first get back into badminton, the place u really feel it the next day is in your bum? or was i doing some strange moves on the court there? maybe it was down to topsy's tricky drops over the net?
Ravski
Oct 12 2004, 4:52 pm
I had a similar pain, it tends to start around bum region, then the legs arms,
BRAIN etc. Not good when you have to sit on your ass in the office the following day.

.
It depends how much warming up and down you did too. I stupidly turned up 45 minutes early so I was able get ass warmed up.

but thanks, we will use it this thrusday
After adding this pic it really looks a badminton thread
Technical question:My shuttle is MAVIS 350 by Yonex. Does anyone knows what 350 means??
pablo
Oct 12 2004, 10:25 pm
http://www.pwp.com/badmintonshuttles.asp?id=310&cat=YonexHighest quality synthetic shuttle for clubs : Mavis 370 Synthetic
Economy quality synthetic shuttle for clubs : Mavis 300 Synthetic
So i guess 350 is somewhere in between.
I would like to pop along at somestage , I just have to buy runners and a new racket.
ume
Oct 12 2004, 11:12 pm
@pablo
thanks for the information. you are most welcome to pop at any stage

As nobody else has a missing shuttle, i guess we all have mixed our shuttles. Ellewood's shuttle is with someone else and I have somebody's shuttle.
@Ellewood
I know it is slower but keep this green one and forget about the red

would anyone be interested in playing badders on a sunday, early afternoon?
electrobuzz
Oct 14 2004, 12:59 pm
@ the people playing today...
do we meet directly at the club or meet at the tram station like before...
i find its a bit easier if we can meet before instead of searchin for everyone in the club...or if u people prefer we can meet directly in the courts...
what say people?
Ravski
Oct 14 2004, 1:37 pm
@All
Knowing my sense of timing I will end up arriving early anyway. Assuming the booked courts are at the same location upsairs then I would like to meet up at the courts. However I dont mind waiting for somone if they are new to the location.
@Ellewood
I dont mind playing, how early afternoon are we talking, where etc how long. It depends on what I do on Saturday night/morning. I have not made any plans as yet. I was not here last weekend so I want to party a bit.
Mbangura
Oct 14 2004, 1:42 pm
It would be best for me to meet before arriving at the center.

Oct 14 2004, 2:30 pm
knowing my sense of timing i will certainly not be very early. courts are booked for 8, no? could meet at streubenplatz tram stop at 7.30.
we usually play on sundays between 12 and 2, depending on night before...

Hi all,
Have fun tonight... I am actually a bit depressed about not being able to come (even though we have a work party with 20,000 people and free food, drinks, music, etc).
Well at least it wasn't just me that was hurting... my bum still feels like it got a good kicking. I just assumed the pain from from the stupid birde dives I was taking!

and me!
trouble
Oct 19 2004, 9:51 am
I'd love to come this Thursday! I have a couple quick questions though:
1) How much does it cost to rent the court (ie: how much should I bring to pitch?)?
2) Does the centre have a gym (workout room) facility, and if so, can I pop into it after to work out (and not get yelled at in German for not being a member?)?
and 3) Could we meet at the Tram stop so I won't get totally lost?
Thanks guys!
