Doing charity or non-profit photography work

Do I need a permit if there is no money involved?

I'm a photographer that just moved here in Feb. I had originally wanted to start my business back up here but for now, it looks like I'll have to put a hold on that until I learn the language more, etc. Anyway, I am a member of a charity photography group in the States called Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep While I"m not able to run a biz and make a profit, I'd like to use this time to do more charity photography like this.

I just wanted to know if anyone knows if there would be a problem with me doing that here. Would I need any type of documents or permit? No money would be involved at all. It's totally a free service for family loosing, or that have lost, a baby/child. I just don't want to run into any problems while trying to do a 'good deed'.

You generally don't need a permit to take photographs, although if you're taking photographs of copyrighted material (and this technically includes buildings, especially stately homes, castles etc.) then you may need to get permission if your work is deemed "professional" in the eyes of the owner.

You do, of course, need a visa to stay in Germany if you are an American citizen.
