Hope the cheddar is decent, the price for it in other places is fucking ridiculous. I bet the pies will be rank
I hope so too... miss Cheddar Cheese :-)
Was told you can freeze cheese - hope it doesn't change the texture/flavour... Might have to stock up! :-)

Thanks for the tip Mik! Really miss pies here...but as Mr Mosh says...they might not be the real McCoy or up to much.
You can make them at home!

Right went to
lidl this lunch and picked up the list of stuff. Most of it is crap to be honest, basicly TV dinner Roast Beef obviously produced for chavs who shop in lidl in the UK. I mean who the hell is going to by frozen roast potatoes? Or worse still frozen fish and chips? Or Potatoe waffles for those who miss them?
Who the hell eats those crappy microwave meals anyway??? YUK!
The Germans have such a bad impression of British food as it is - I think many of these things that Lidl are selling are hardly going to help change that! :-}

Are they like Fray Bentos pies then? i.e. in a tin. If so, I'll not be buying any after all!
That wouldn't be a bad idea! I love those things! :-D

Yes it says that the British are prepared to try new things and experiment with their food. Curry may well be the most popular food, although i think you'll find it's the most popular take away food, but that doesn't mean they've stopped eating roast beef and Fish and chips.
Actually, let's not forget that we once had a great empire and our interest in curries probably stems from our presence in India.
We are actually pretty open-minded about trying new things... In Bavaria they tend to be a bit nervous about trying new things (which seems to be changing slowly).

Fuck the Queen. Give me bacon.
Preferably Harry! Did I *really* say that out loud???
QUOTE (Opus @ May 29 2008, 6:44 pm)

I am from Hungary.
Why is Opus getting his knickers in such a twist about British food?
You can't please everyone and probably not everyone likes Goulash. Opus, if you don't like British food, don't eat it... Actually, Hungary is only really known for Goulash - at least people around the world know us for Fish & Chips, Cakes & Scones & Tea, Puddings, Plum Pudding, Pies, Haggis, Roast Beef (and English breakfasts)! Actually so well known that the French sometimes call us "les rosbifs" LOL
One thing to note, we also don't have much in the way of English restaurants in England either, so why would you expect them around the world? We tend to eat good homely British cooking at home or as pub meals. We tend to eat in restaurants if we want to try something from another country.
Actually, whenever I make British dishes for "foreigners" (such as Apricot Crumble, Steak & Ale Pie, Christmas Cake), they have always been impressed... :-) They are actually a well-kept secret and you need to experience it with a British family to appreciate it... You can hardly judge British cuisine based on 2 experiences of Shepherd's Pie and Haggis! Try going to England some time to educate yourself...

anyone got a good recipe for roast potatoes - never seem to get them crispy enough!
You need to have the right potatoes... I find that a lot of the potatoes here don't quite have the same texture as back home when roasted...
