Specialities like steak pies, baked beans, cheddar cheese, shortbread biscuits, malt vinegar and porridge.
All from a firm called Hatherwood.

Info about
Lidl from Wikipedia:
Lidl is a European discount supermarket chain of German origin that operates 7,000 stores. In Germany it is Aldi's main competitor. Lidl has established itself in over 17 countries. It was founded in the 1930s by a member of the Schwarz family. In the 1970s, the first Lidl stores of today's incarnation opened. Lidl is not an abbreviation, but the last name of Ludwig Lidl, a retired teacher.
It has become an iconic shop for low earners (pikeys) because of its mainly low pricing and as such is sometimes joked about.

Hatherwood isn't a company. It's just one of a huge number of names Lidl owns for the use on its private label products.

Saw the flyer too. Chedder Cheese, proper chips/crisps which aren't paprika flavoured, chutney, pies...booyah!

Hope the cheddar is decent, the price for it in other places is fucking ridiculous. I bet the pies will be rank

Good morning, Sunshine.
Thanks for the heads up, Mik!
Fruity
Given that the Germans in general have an unjustified but ingrained poor view of British cuisine it could well be that few snap up the offers...
Heinz baked beams & a well-known make of shortbread biccies are available at several supermarkets in our area.

Thank you - but does it start on Monday or on the 5th June? They're not the same day.

You can get Heinz Baked Beans from lots of places already. REWE, EDEKA and I think
Kaufland sell them, they cost just under a Euro a tin.
It doesn't say anywhere on here that it starts on Monday!

I'm hoping they'll be cheaper at Lidl.

Although I applaud the idea, I do question the buying and marketing descisions of lidl. If this weather continues as it is here in Munich with 30 degrees plus outside, which German in their right mind is ever going to consider a steak pie let alone porridge? Surely British food would achieve an increased take up and acceptance in the German Market in the more cooler months of Autumn and Winter?
Advantage is of course, the more the Hermans with their advanced and wide range of choice and experimental taste leave for us, the better. Sometimes crap marketing can be applauded.

Thx, Guy. I looked at the calendar over my left shoulder and saw 5, Monday, never realizing that it's a 3 month calendar and I was looking at May.

Baked beans and cheddar! Surely this is British food we don't want to be boasting about, let alone rummage around the Lidl Wühltische for?
Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of flapjack in Munich or environs?
That's the one and only Brtish food I miss.

There is a specialised flapjack stall in the Kaufinger Strasse. Next to the blackpudding shop, and inbetween the Haggis store and Real Ale Bitter and Mild Getränkemarkt.
As they are so popular and often sold out you may have to make them yourself.

In the UK, a flapjack is a tray bake (or bar cookie, for Americans) made from rolled oats, fat (typically butter), brown sugar and usually golden syrup or honey. ...

Flapjacks are one of the few things that I bring back from the UK, especially now that the airports have made it too complicated to bring beer back. They're great for hiking. They are, however, desperately easy to make yourself, even by my lazy standards. Real cheddar cheese is about the only other thing I bring back – that's a lot harder to make at home!

Why is everyone going nuts over Baked Beans? They are available in literally every supermarket here (the Heinz ones, exactly like in the UK).
On a side note, it would be nice if they had proper white bread for sale during this period.

Right went to lidl this lunch and picked up the list of stuff. Most of it is crap to be honest, basicly TV dinner Roast Beef obviously produced for chavs who shop in lidl in the UK. I mean who the hell is going to by frozen roast potatoes? Or worse still frozen fish and chips? Or Potatoe waffles for those who miss them?
THere are a couple of gems though.
Picallili with Mustard - 450g glass €1.29
Malt vinegar - 500ml €0.79
Mustard or Mint sauce for €0.89
Vintage reserve Chedder Cheese 15 months 400grams for €2.99
Cheddar Cheese with pickle 6-12 months 200 grams €2.29
Sweet pickle chutney - own brand branston basicly 454 gram (must be made in UK) for €1.29
the steak pie looks well like one you'd eat when a student but at €2.79 for 680 grams what the heck.
The rest of the stuff you can get here, corned beef, baked beans and blackcurrant juice.
I shall be queueing German style with sharpened elbows to snatch a kilo of the cheddar.

I'd buy the Frozen roast potatoes, if you can buy them separate from the meat part. My Mum buys them in England and they are excellent, although she doesn't get them from Lidl. I know you can do them yourself, but if they're good then it saves the hassle of peeling the spuds, boiling them etc. I shall have to have a look.
