Moving to Berlin to teach English

How much money needed before starting work?

I have to as my friend puts it "live the dream" and up and move to Berlin to teach English. I feel I am adequately prepared (Irish and American citizenship, a Masters Degree, TESL certification, and at least 6 months of English teaching experience), and have already arranged the "getting there" side of things, so that leaves only one question -

how much money do I need to have to cover me before I can get a job? I have a good deal of friends there and am pretty sure I'll have somewhere to stay while looking for a job/flat, but how much will I need if that doesn't work out?

Thanks

you might be able to live very cheaply here while looking for a job but the kicker is once your 3 month tourist visa runs out. At that point you have to renew and the government will want to see how much cash you have and proof of health insurance. I dont have a specific number for you but it's got to be more than a couple hundred and also a solid job offer to go along with it. So I guess you've got 3 months to make it work mate. After that you'll need to cover the price of a ticket home I guess.

edit: I see now you also have Irish citizenship. In this case the visa rules/right to stay etc may be a lot easier. Someone else has to cover this I only know australia & north american experience.

As an Irish citizen, you are entitled to all the rights of other EU citizens (which include most of the rights of 'enjoyed' by German citizens) . The details of this have been covered many times in other threads - check them out.

You'll have a huge problem making much money in Berlin teaching English.
Economically Berlin is a basket case.
