Info and opinions on this district of Berlin

Hallo. I am currently living in P'berg but decided this place wasn't for me (not to mention where I was staying was expensive), and from next week and onwards I will be living in Wilmersdorf, 3 U-bahn stops away from Ku'Damm. I sort of took up an offer without really researching/knowing about this area of Berlin, so I was just wondering if any of you live in Wilmersdorf, or have anything to say about this district of Berlin? I will be sharing a house with a German couple for at least 3 months here. Is there anything good around Wimersdorf in terms of food, entertainment, and what not?

Thanks in advance

p.s. I'm pretty sure there is a no life-in-wilmersdorf thread yet..

Welcome to Wilmersdorf!
I only moved here 3 months ago from Munich, and I must say I like it. It's not the best area for going out, but there are several restaurants and bars in bundesplatz which are not bad (Alcatraz, Coma...). There's quite a few restaurants, bars and cafes in Guentzelstr and Hohenzolerdamm. I think the trick of it is to wander around and check what's available in your neighbourhood.
Another good thing here is the great u-bahn connection to other parts of town...
PM me if you want more details.

Lived in Wilmersdorf at Fehrbelliner Platz/Brandenburgische Straße (some kind of the "poor" area of Wilmerdorf biggrin.gif) two years ago. One of the dullest, but also one of the cleanest areas in Berlin (seen nearly no dogshit there over the 3 years I lived there). Good connections, quiet and green, buildings from ugly to beautiful (in terms of the amount of old buildings it's less impressive than prenzlauer berg), good restaurants and a few good bars, some theaters and jazz clubs (badenscher hof), but that's it for the entertainment - nearly no clubs or hip lounges, whatever. shopping is also not spectacular (went to Uhlandstraße for smaller shops and to Charlottenburg/Wilmersdorfer Straße for the bigger ones), but a 24/6 supermarket at Berliner Straße. The area around Ludwigskirchplatz/Pariser Straße is without a doubt the best if it comes to restaurants and bars and some kind of flair, but it is also without a doubt better if you have some money to enjoy this area. Personally never would move there again (maybe when I'm fifty), but for three months it could be like a holiday from Prenzlauer Berg wink.gif

When I first came here, I was on PAriser Str. and it was brilliant. I really enjoyed it. Now I'm in Charlottenburg, and I like it here too.

But then, I'm not a party animal!

I will be living near U-Bhf. Berliner Str., I think that is a bit south of where the action is (within Wilmersdorf anyway) ?

I was there today and it seems like a total residential neighbourhood, quite different from the Kastanienallee of Prenzlauer Berg I am at for the time being.. but the rent there is half of what i pay here, and I saw virtually no yuppies and hipsters and graffiti and dog shit.

ah, it's wilmersdorf at the border to schöneberg (the border is bamberger straße/kufsteiner straße), nice, because akazienstraße is just a stone's throw away.
Badenscher Hof is at u-bhf berliner straße, so if you like jazz, it's a recommendation.
the volkspark a bit south is also quite nice.
as someone said, güntzelstraße is one of the gastro-streets in southcentral wilmersdorf area.

smile.gif Decidedly unhip... But I liked it!
