Hi all!

My husband will be interviewing for a job at the Berlin International School while we're out there on vacation next week. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the average teacher's salary is at that school. My husband has been teaching for nine years here in the US and holds two Master's Degrees. Also, does anyone know if teacher's kids are allowed to go there for free?
Oh, and what about "Kindergeld"? Are we as US citizens entitled to receive that? Our kids are dual citizens of both Germany and the US, but my husband and I are Americans only.
Thanks in advance for your help smile.gif

As long as you are living legally in Germany you are entitled to Kindergeld. You have to do the paperwork.

Are you talking about the Nelson Mandela school ? If so it is a state run school, and so there are no fees for any children - just a small annual fee for joining the school "verein". However I don't know if your children can attend just because one of their parents works there.

Also beware that there is a crazy rule here that teachers with non German qualifications are not paid as much as those with German qualifications. This is a crazy situation, and has meant that the international schools have lost good teachers. There is a campaign to try to get this changed, but it is proving difficult.

No, not the Nelson Mandla School. The IBS is a private school in Dahlem.

OK, no idea then as I don't know how private schools operate.

My wife and I work at the school and after tax and health insurance we get about €2000 a month each. Many of the teachers do have kids at the school but to be honest, I don't know if it's free or at a reduced rate. You should enquire about this at the interview. If you have any other questions, then let me know!
