MTV Germany don't play any music

I thought that MTV was supposed to be a music channel. Clearly I was mistaken.

The shallowness & idiocy shown in these programs is mind-boggling. Do the producers at MTV not realise that they are not doing any favours for the international portrayel of themselves, their people or their nation.

Enough with the bullshit shows and bring back the music!!!

Hell, get with it, music was dropped from that station about 10 years ago. Now, all the music/videos are on MTV2, which actually has some good music and bands. Anyway, even though I wouldn't watch any of those shows if I were in the U.S., save the Osbournes and Jackass, they at least give some options for us no-so-good German speakers. I can only take CNN for so long, like 45 seconds.

I remember the last time I was in the US, I would turn over to MTV every once in a while and I never saw any music. They had the crap shows you mentioned + more dating, reality crap. Occasionally there was a documentry. I gave up after a bit. Just as well there were several music channels available.

Compared to the US MTV, the German version at least still seems to be based around music.

that is why viva is so popular. they actually show music videos and the occasional interview. since my telly is dead i only get to see cable when i go to the gym, but the last few times on mtv there was a soap opera. is this a regular thing?

Viva is great. They show a lot of great music, and they do loads of interviews which are mostly done in english because all the best bands aren't german

Do they show Doggy Fizzle Televizzle on MTV in Germany? The UK channel does, and it is one of the highlights of the weeks TV for me. Superb viewing. But yeah, music seems to have less and less time devoted to it. MTV Base is sometimes OK, but recently it should be called MTV50Cent, as every bloody night there is some 50Cent feature on. I think he's a bit overrated.

and whats with MTV2, is it just me or does anyone else get KIKA kids tv on that channel during the day until 8/9pm?!!

Most of MTV is crap.

What is better is Bayern 3 which at midnight onwards oif you want an alternative to the titty channels you can see old fashioned sixties bands like The Who and the Temptations before they got famous. I caught Cream with a very young Eric Clapton on it a couple of nights ago.

I used to only think Paul Kossoff was Guitar God until recently. I had made the mistake of never listening to Clapton extremely loud. So on the way to buy beer the other day at the Tankstelle I played From the Cradle by Clapton bloody loud. Now I get the point!

I saw Doggy Fizzle one time, but I think it was a one time only thing, on a saturday morning. I didn't think that was funny, either. Nothin's worse than the Germany dismissed, though.

Doggy Fizzle can be a bit hit & miss at times, but I enjoy it for the most part. I'd like to see them try to subtitle it on Krout telly.

Do you think it's funny because you like laughing at it, or with it? I know everyone has their own taste, but what do you find funny about that show, it is not funny or original (in my opinion)?

Actually, that would be quite funny if you could dismiss countries. I have a feeling Germany would get dismissed alot. Then again, I have a feeling my home country, U.S., would get dismissed a lot.

I am very open to the idea that my sense of humour has been completely ruined by living here in Kroutland, but as you say, everyone has their own taste. It's just junkfood TV, which is pretty much what I like late at night.
Its certainly not hilariously funny by any stretch of the imagination, but thats probably because nobody British was involved in the script writing.

i reached this conclusion ages ago, but am reaffirming it now- Jackass, the tv show, sucks! i cannot stand this show. at the moment it's the only thing on tv and i just finished a movie so blah it's on. but as i half watch it it's real crap and i cannot understand how people would like it or find it funny/entertaining- blah!
if anyone has a diff opinion please share it and hopefully spread the light on how this show can be tolerable.

Jackass would be one of the better shows on ANY channel, it is a bunch of professionals doing what they do best at the top of their game...it's basically a stunt show for stunt aficionados, by stunt artists...and a lot more thought goes into it than you think, much of it could easily be seen as public performance to compete with any other you see around the place, and the rest, well, it's entertainment for a generation raised on conformist shite...

What they do on Jackass are not stunts, there not even cunning stunts...

When I see Jackass I think of a game we called "knuckles" back home as teenagers. This was where you held out your clenched fist "palm"-up, while someone else, with clenched fist, would crack their knuckles hard and fast across yours causing alot of pain. Then it was your turn to hit. The idea was to see who would say stop first. Many a bloody knuckle was to be seen in the school yard.

Professionals my bloody knuckles, Jackass is an absolute pile of shite! It's schoolboy bullshit at it's most pointless. Why doesn't MTV just go film the young fellahs behind the bikeshed smoking faggs while they're at it!

And then there are the what seem like never ending commercials which are all ring tone commercials. I gave up even trying to watch MTV a long time ago.

Ringtone ads really piss people off but they bring in a LOT of money and I think the record labels have interests in the companies. Read a couple of months ago the EU is going to crack down on them soon...

When I watched telly I used to like VH1 but that got booted out our cable package.

Jackass though...most are stunts and are mostly illusion in a way, look at lots of 90's and 00's action movies and you will see the cast of jackass under their various monikers in the credits as stuntmen, doubles, stunt coordinators etc.

Jackass isn't just a bunch of fools filming eachother with a handycam while they try to hurt themselves, they have a HUGE crew, writers and the like...

What's the point of Jackass? Is there a point?

I cant stand music channels for to long the ring ad's that constantly repeat are really annoying. It's like having pop ups on your tv!

Viva II has changed now too they show the trashy pay quiz shows in the afternoon
