JulieFilth&Sin have reached the semi-finals of the Munich New Stars competition. We write our own, and we sing in English. Fortunately for us, we write in English too. We could really do with the ex-pat support as we try to make the final of this Bavarian competition. The semis are at 20:00 Thursday December 9th 2004, Garage Deluxe,
Kultfabrik (the old Kunstpark). I think it is 6 Euros on the door. Any help in getting the word around is greatly appreciated :-)

Sin, what kind of music your band play?
I've got a Friday-Saturday-Sundar 3 day bender next weekend so Thursdy's looking unlikely, but still.
Well, it's our own music. Julie is 23 and German, so she comes with her own influences. She plays a bit tribal at times, and is a great EO (Elbows Out) drummer. Johnny Filth is Norwegian and 35 TODAY. So his influences are more Hendrix, Led Zep, Sabbath, Red Hot Chilly Peppers, Etc. (typical guitarist). He has a higher voice than me. My influences range from late 50's rock and roll, British R&B (especially Them and The Small Faces), T-Rex and early Bowie, through punk and roots-dub reggae to 80's-90's indie music. My voice is Ian Dury even when I'm trying hard for it not to be. We try to keep the JulieFilth&Sin sound somewhere in the middle and not too close to any of our influences. Both Filth and I write the songs, but some of the attitude is pure Pistols... NOT the sound. It is political at times, but sometimes a love song emerges - like "Erotica". We try to play and sing well, and combine that with an aggressive stage presence. After all, in my book there's nothing worse than watching a group of musicians static and looking at their shoes.
If you do come, bring a posse - and say Hello to me

Me band, that is JulieFilth&Sin are now through to the FINAL of The Munich New Stars competition!!!
Details are:
Venue:
Garage Delux,
Kultfabrik, Grafinger Str. München (behind the
Ostbahnhof in the old Kunstpark).
Date: Thursday December 16th 2004. Doors open at 19:00, first band 20:00 (this is what the organisers claim, last night the first band went on at 20:20. We went on at 22:50).
There will be 4 bands in the final. When each band plays is drawn from a hat. We won't know until about 18:50 on the night. As far as I know, the bands that gave me a bloody headache didn't get through. First prize is a recording deal (nothing big). Second is to open for a major act.
JulieFilth&Sin sing in English (I couldn't sing in German if I tried).

@ Sin - CONGRATULATIONS for advancing from the Semi Finals!
I think I can get a kitchen pass for long enough to catch your set. This should most definately be a Toytown event.

So, where is this place??? And would a fairly-newbee have a chance of finding some others to meet up with???
Sin
Dec 14 2004, 11:15 pm
Wow! Thanks Texas Tornado - I'm humbled - Thank you very, very much - appreciated.
The venue is Garage Deluxe in Kultfabrik. Go to the
Ostbahnhof and go towards the arse-end of the station (behind the platforms and not at the front of the building). Cross the street (Freidenstr.) and head right. At the next street (Grafinger Str.) turn left.
Kultfabrik is where all the clubs are, about 150 metres on the right. Go through the entrance and you will see a car park on the right. At the other end of the car park, at the very end of the building (it looks like a factory... well it was once) is Garage Deluxe. You will see a FIAT 500 hanging outside the entrance from the ceiling. It is a cheesy dive with an automobile theme... very naff, but Fuck - dats where we're playin'. Doors open at 19:00, first band (is due on) at 20:00. There are four bands in the final and we will have to draw straws at about 18:50 to know when we will be on.
I just heard that we won't be on first. Phew! I hate being first. So 2nd, 3rd or 4th band to play then.
Can you all now please close your eyes, cross your fingers and wish with us that we get 3rd slot?

nice analogy... thanks for that thought..!
...and on that note UrbanAngel, when somebody asks me if I want something or if I want to do something, when it is obvious that I do, I always respond with the line "Is the pope jewish?"
I just love mixing metaphors ~ shaken not stirred of course

Good luck tonight, Sin. let us know how it went!
Hope it went/is going well!
Thanks
We came 3rd, but we had a great time. It was our best gig out of the 6 we have done now. Really, really enjoyed it. We got beaten by a trash metal band and a 6-piece heavy metal band. Garage might have been a bit too heavy a joint for our softer, melodic music, but who cares? We got to the final, and picked up a lot of new support and contacts.
Next time eh?
It's 02:50 - I'm gonna collapse.

a Heavy Metal band? I shall now put my head in the oven.
You made it the the finals and that makes you a winner. You were a winner the first time you advanced.

Shit, I just got back from a meeting at the Finanzamt. I wasn't really ready for that this morning
Thanks you for your kind words. I want to go to the TT Xmas Night Out tonight, but I feel like I've been run over by a Routemaster bus... maybe I'm gettin' too old to shag my bass guitar on stage anymore (you had to be there to understand that one).
Whatever, it was fun at the time

but in reality the place was far too heavy for us. We went on last, and directly after the weirdest deth-metal act. Their vocals (to me) sounded like a jet-engine on afterburners... whilst standing 3 metres behind the aircraft. I think everybody's ears were bleedin' when we came on. It gave me a bloody headache.
Never mind eh? Next time will be at New Backstage end of January/beginning of February, and we have a couple of other things lined up for the new year. At least we can move on with developing the rest of the songs for our full 110 minute set.
@karambos - Thanks a lot for coming. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
