Where to buy a good chocolate cake

My husband wants a chocolate cake for his birthday. I'm not Betty Crocker and I cant find a Chocolate cake mix or chocolate frosting anywhere. Although my next stop is Ka De We.

I would prefer to get it from a good bakery around Berlin.

Any recommendations ?

How about Sachertorte? There is for instance the Austrian wine merchant's, restaurant and Kaffeehaus Ottenthal in Charlottenburg.

I don't rate Sachertorte, personally - I guess it's just an individual preference, but I find it dry and not densely chocolatey enough. The food court in KaDeWe should definitely have something suitable, though almost certainly painfully expensive. Packet mixes are everywhere, though! I don't know which supermarkets you shop in, but I don't seem able to go anywhere without bumping into Dr Oetker chocolate cake mixes. (Off the top of my head I've definitely seen them in Ulrichs, Extra and Reichelt in Alexa.)

Tim's Canadian deli on Winterfeldtplatz in Schineberg, two mins walk from Nollendorfplatz U bahn, does spectacular Brownies, so probably cake too. Otherwise I'm sure KaDaWe Food Hall on 6th floor would do something that would blow a choc-lover's mind...

you know, dr. oetker's choco cake is not bad at all. just add a little extra butter and then you get it super moist. The frosting is in the box. Here's Dr.O's site so you can recognize at the supermarket:

Check out Cupcake Bakery, zionskirch platz(directly opposite the church) just near the kastanien allee.They do the most amazing chocolate cakes seriously! www.cupcakebakery.de
Another good bet is a place called 'cake'on choriner strasse.

I bought a terrific one (with lettering) from the Sowohl als Auch bakery (corner of Kollwitzstr./Sredzkistr.) -- web site http://www.tortenundkuchen.de/. They are VERY unfriendly ... but VERY good!
