Hiya gang. Greetings from Santa Fe, New Mexico. First time here - I'll be here a few days and would love recs for restaurants - Have one for the Plaza Restaurant/Diner on well, the Plaza and some super posh place whose name escapes me. Probably going to give it a pass anyway.

I also want to pack up a few jars of salsas/spices on my way out. Recommendations for brands would be fantastic. Unfortunately I can't shop the perishable aisle so it will have to be the good old fashioned jarred variety.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Go to Jesse's Bar at the

Hotel Plaza Real

and get a Silver Coin margarita. Best I've ever had. And I'm the one who already told you about the Plaza Diner. Very good. We didn't pick up any sauces while there, just loads of dried peppers. You're close to Hatch, you know! Have some green chile for me!

Haven't been there myself in my adult years, but according to my parents who have been there several times you will not find better TexMex even in Texas. My father loves the food there and knowing my father he simply picked the ugliest places he could find. That criterion has served me well in looking for local stuff; ugly on the outside and clean on the inside. You can almost never go wrong with that combo!

Hi JML,

I see that one of the most expert eating-outers has fixed you up with good suggestions on going out and about in Santa Fe. As far as I remember, the choice of superb restaurants was overwhelming. All of them sound excellent, though they are relatively expensive.

If you are still looking for other restaurant alternatives, simply choose from the variety of good restaurants and try them out. Just by reading the menus I had the impression that one couldn't do much wrong.

Enjoy

Thanks for the advice! So today I opted for some guys selling big fajitas out of a cart, 4.00 Oh and tamales. Unbelievable for a 1.50. Ate them picnic style on the plaza, cant beat that. I'm going to check out the plaza cafe, if I can get passed the guy with the cart again.

For future advice seekers, I've also had several recs to Cafe Pascal on Gaspar street, also off the main Plaza. It was really crowded so gave it a pass. I'm pretty sure all of it is good, I'll just order everything so spicy I can't tell its bad.

PS: Gen, unless you've turned into the burly bellhop that kindly ferried my luggage then no, you didn't give me the rec. Though I have to say I think you could rock the beard. Might want to give the leg hairs a pass though. wink.gif

Amongs many travel websites, there is one very comprehensive website I can recommend:

For hotels and to a certain extent also US restaurants:
