Blocking all posts except from selected members

New feature request (Update: Feature now added)

Can I block other members' posts using a 'Select All' feature and then just unblock the few I want to see? Can all blocked posts not even inform me of the fact that there was a post existing that I have blocked in the first place? This will make Toytown a lot easier to use. Thank you.

Huh? Are you proposing member's post you aren't interested in reading on a thread be blocked so you can't see them?
Are you suggesting this because you've been spending too much time going like this?

Is it possible when you're reading TT you look at who posted the comment and simply don't read that one?
Have you been laying awake at night agonizing over this? wink.gif

Eh? Yes. No. Maybe. No.

Umm ... if you want to first block all posts so that you can't see any trace of them, how can you then select the ones you want to see, if you can't see them, if you see what I mean?

If you want to ignore all users except a select few, try the stalking method - go to a user's profile and click on "Find member's posts". I use that a lot to see if my favourite posters have written anything worth reading. (Sin, you wouldn't believe how much time you're saving me now I don't have to trawl through endless ramblings about footie these days). Otherwise, just a quick glance at the topic titles, and I try to be very selective. I mean, how much of this stuff does anyone really need to read anyway?

I need to block some people again. Can I block them completely from TT? Can I block them from seeing my posts? Can I push a button that sends a shock to their hands? That would be cool.

As requested, this feature has now been added. Kind of.

First click to select the members whose posts you wish to read.

Then proceed to view the listing of their most recent posts.

The viewing of recent posts will only work for members who choose "Remember me" when logging into the forum, and have cookies enabled.

The functionality and graphic design of this feature is very minimalist at the moment. But if the feature proves popular then it can be developed further.

I can only guess who or is it whom? I have a few in mind myself. wink.

Just given it a try. Can't say I find it all that useful (though maybe others will find a use for it), as it shows all the posts by all the users in my list, but in chronological order, which means they're pretty much thrown together randomly as regards the threads they're taken from. If I just want to see all posts by a single user, that functionality exists already via the user profile.

The way I understood Sin's original post (and what I also think would be useful) was as a request to hide individual posts in a thread. For instance, the thread Hair salons / ladies' hairdressers contains many useful recommendations, but interspersed with lots of posts like "Yoo-hoo! I've got an appointment for tomorrow!", "They aren't answering the phone - are they closed today?", "Do they do hair extensions?", "There's a good salon out in Pasing" (other end of the world for me). It would be great if I could block out all the stuff that is irrelevant for me, and reduce the thread to a concise reference list of hairdressers that are of interest to me personally.

Note that this doesn't mean blocking individual users, as some of a user's posts might be useful, while other posts by the same user might be unwanted fluff.
