I am looking for either a French school with evening courses or a native French speaker who can be my tutor. Catch: because I'm an absolute beginner, the classes must be taught in English (at least until I get the basics) - I don't speak any German! I would like to learn reading and writing, but conversational skills are the most important.

From my own experience, you may find you learn french quicker from someone who speaks only french to you (even as a beginner).

Also, unless you're planning a move soon, don't you think it's best to start learning german first.
