Unbelievable! Do I have to fly to the US to get decent peanut butter? Help! Someone must know someone who knows someone who knows a secret or off the beaten path place where I can find Jiffy of Peter Pan? I'm contemplating driving to a US base in Germany and asking a soldier at the gate to buy me some...
Danke,

If you have a food processor you can make your own. I buy this organic peanut butter with no salt, sugar or hydrogenated fats.

I rather like the crunchy peanut butter from Aldi - it´s going on sale in two weeks´time if you want to try it, but to be perfectly honest with you, coming from the UK, I have absolutely no idea what american peanut butter tastes like!!!

Yeah, but then he said Peter Pan or Jiffy. If that's his standard, Barney's will do. Rewe has peanut butter, over by the Nutella and jam, and as someone else mentioned, Aldi will be selling it on the 21st along with a few other pseudo-American things.

Where?
Let's just put it like this, I have some very good connections

. The peanut butter underground black market

.
Btw, when I was a kid I would use Skippy peanut butter to make P & J sandwiches.

Make me an offer and I'll hand over an unopened jar of Skippy creamy peanut butter.

I also have bean dip, mini-marshmallows and Duncan Hines devil's food cake mix... I'd eat it myself but I'm foolishly on a diet.

Look, if someone makes me a better offer I can hand over some unopened Skippy, Jiff, and Peter Pan!! I will even toss in some Smuckers Jelly if the offer is too good to refuse.

I despise all of you people who have "connections" here and insist on thumbing your noses at the rest of us who don't. We'll see who's laughing after I return from my visit back home with 2 suitcases full "real" peanut butter, canned pumpkin, condensed cream of whatever soup, Twizzlers, Mac n Cheese, etc, etc.

Yeah, and like I said ' its pretty good to me' - having eaten the stuff all my life, I generally enjoyed Skippy back home and Barneys was new to me here and is not far off from Skippy's

To be fair, Barney's Best is made in the US and imported here and it does compare to Skippy's (which has never been a fav of mine). In our household, we buy Barney's too. It's just not Jif or Peter Pan.
Peanut butter, while being high in calories, is actually a very healthy food. US brands are not on the whole supplemented with trans fats and in fact have a purity law similar to the German one for beer. It is actually the spreads and "Natural" brands that add the palm oils and other unhealthy ingredients.

I'll still be laughing, cause I can get more much fast/cheaper than you can flying to the US.
I still have, 4-6 cans of ready made pumpkin mix, and 6-8 boxes or real kraft mac-n-cheese.

Nothings stopping you from making your own connections.

You know, my friend just came to visit me from Chicago and he'd bought a bunch of stuff to bring me, including mac & cheese, ranch dressing, Red Vines, etc. But after consulting
Zoll.de, I told him to just bring the Red Vines, Almond Joy, Sazon seasoning and non-consumable goods and leave the rest to be mailed.
Are you telling me that I should've just had him bring it? Have you done this before? Because now I'm sad.

I thought for sure they'd hassle him at the airport.

There is nothing wrong with bringing any of the stuff you mentioned. The only big no-no's are meat, unpasteurized cheese and fruits/veg.
My sources are already in Germany, so I have nothing to worry about.

There is a G&A Grocery in Munich and they get fresh bagels from New York (or they used to) that you can put your peanut butter on (some people do like that and they also sell the good peanut butter). In fact, I need to visit that place this week. I think it is close to Frauenhofer Ubahn stop.

Be careful mailing foodstuffs to Germany. My mom tried to send me some mac 'n cheese and other things, but any animal products are not allowed to be mailed. The package was sent back. Bringing things via airline is apparently no problem, though. Feel free to debate whether or not orange powder is actually an animal product.

Thanks to everyone for all the info. PES, I'm trying the 'food from home' place. Lavender, in the meantime, maybe I can offload some of that unopened Skippy, Jiff, and Peter Pan. Does 20 euros for the batch sound ok (I'm hoping they're the larger size.. ;>)

US brands are full of hydrogenated vegetable oil, sugar and preservatives. There is no purity law for peanut butter in the US, although this is a beautiful dream.
The best peanut butter is made at home in a food processor, not in a blender... in case anyone was thinking of trying that... voice of experience... Then peanut butter is a healthy food. Or if the peanut butter contains only dry roasted peanuts. In Canada, there is President's Choice brand "Just Peanuts". This was the only brand of peanut butter in Canada or the US that was easily available and affordable that was not contaminated with sugar and disgusting added oils. And do you know why they add the disgusting other oils and fats? Because some manufacturers also produce peanut oil so they grind and press all the peanut oil out of their peanuts to make peanut oil out of their peanuts, and then have to add yucky vegetable oils to make the peanut butter spreadable.
The peanut butter that I got here from the Mini Preis tasted like it had bloody bacon grease added to it. The peanut flavour was barely discernable, and it was made in USA. It has put me off peanut butter possibly forever... shudder.
ah root beer... sigh...
