Live alternative music around Düsseldorf

I am considering a move to Düsseldorf. I frequently go to gigs and enjoy live music.
Are there any venues near the town (perhaps Cologne?) where I can see alternative/guitar music?
I'm thinking smaller venues/clubs/bars rather than the stadium-typ places.

Good club, good guy. Know him. Bar on street level, downstairs oldschool cellar.
Club/live bands, often times international. Pretty decent program for such a small place.
