DE News Editor: 1 Year Contract

My client one of the worlds leading online search engine organizations is looking to a recruit a News Editor for the German & UK based news sites. This is a contract position for 1 year. This is an amazing opportunity to be part of an extremely successful, global leading online organization!I am looking for a dynamic and resourceful team member capable of independently running a leading news site, whilst working alongside European news producers to strengthen the news brand across Europe.

This News site has a strong mix of editorially-led and feed based content operating at both DE and EU levels. It is also a key revenue generator and traffic driver for the whole company Network. Reporting to the European News Product Manager, you will be tasked with the maintenance and development of de.news within the DE market. This will be achieved through an understanding of online news environments and user requirements, the management of partner relations and feed quality as well as the promotion and development of the site to include off-portal distribution, the identification of appropriate product innovations and social media tools, which capitalize on and enhance the News brand.

I am are looking for a high-caliber individual who is able to strengthen the news user base, increase engagement and drive traffic across the whole online network.
Responsibilities:

The DE news editor will have the overall objectives of increasing traffic and engagement on the DE news site, improving quality and improving industry competitiveness as well as developing the news site in line with current trends. This will be achieved by exceeding the following objectives:

1) Increasing user base and engagement figures
a) Increasing time spent and number of visits on the news site
cool.gif The selection and promotion of relevant content on and off-portal.
c) Quality: improving product quality and user relevancy of content
2) Cross network and off-portal integration
a) Working with other Businesses to establish beneficial cross promotions, in particular the frontpage team.
cool.gif Seeking out ways to increase the flow off traffic to / from news and to / from the whole network
c) Recirculation: improving traffic flow to and from key properties across the network
3) Sourcing new features and innovations, particularly with regard to the integration of social media platforms and functionality on the news site
a) Coming up with ideas for new features, which include revenue considerations.
cool.gif Collaborating with EU colleagues on site improvements as well as new feature specs, sometimes leading individual projects.
c) Working with engineers and web developers to produce product requirements and mocks for new features.

Skills and requirements

The ideal candidate will display a combination of strong, traditional editorial skills with a deep understanding of the current trends and changing nature of online news and how these can be translated into relevant content on the DE news site.

He/she will have prior editorial experience and responsibilities within a large online arena, preferably having worked on social media platforms. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the UK news market and knowledge of the key players and their strengths and weaknesses.

On a personal level, he/ she will need to be confident and personable and to be able to adapt to changing environments. The ideal candidate will also display a strong sense of editorial integrity and the confidence and drive to take the DE news product to a different level whilst maintaining the brand integrity.

As an integral part of the European news team, the DE news editor will also be expected to take the lead on select EU wide projects which will require a close working relationship with counterparts in France, UK, Italy and Spain.
