Sin
It is the something or other that we are attempting to retrace here.
Yeti
Sometimes it is best to let something orther just be something or other, untraceable, mysterious and smelling faintly of elderberries.
Sin
No. Definitely no elderberries.
GreenTea
I don't usually go to this quiz night thingy because I find the idea of sitting at a table jotting down answers to trivia questions rather dull. Maybe it's just a question of where you jot down the answers, and what you use for a writing implement:

QUOTE (Sin @ May 1 2007, 3:12 pm) *
Who the Hell are Michela, Fransi, Verena and Tilde, and why are these names written on my chest in lipstick?

If those are the answers, what were the questions?

QUOTE (Sin @ May 1 2007, 3:12 pm) *
I have some questions relating to last night:

1. WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO ME??? (as in, why was my head stuck to the pillow when I woke up, where is my right shoe and, why does it hurt when I pee?)

Shhh, don't give away next week's questions already!
Sin
Well... I can highly recommend Quiz Night. You'll come away with a raging hangover, a missing shoe, and the feeling that you probably did something you shouldn't have. unsure.gif
GreenTea
What I don't get is: What did a bow-tie have to do with all this? blink.gif
Sin
I lost a bow-tie.

Good news is that a member of The Mafia has just called to say he lost his jacket. He'll be calling The Arc presently.

It would appear that surviving members may have left The Arc about 5-ish and may also fell out of The Temple Bar around 8-ish. Some are now surfacing. Others remain lost. The man-to-be may be in the hold of a flight arriving in Harare.
Carm
The Arc has its own Mafia now? huh.gif
Sin
Another member has emerged with more details. "The Mafia" were a group of friends seeing off one of our number who will soon be married. Only a handful are TTers. It kicked off in The Shamrock, where the man-to-be was stripped naked, redressed in a big black wig and bushy black moustache, and re-adorned resplendent in merely a tiny bright puce green bodythong with the word Borat on the front. The whiskeys started flowing and so did the water pistol fights. From there to Sausalitos young ladies were confronted in the street, or in restaurant forecourts to either have their photos taken with said almost naked man-to-be or risk being drenched. Successful man-to-be recieved shots. Pandemonium was caused in Sausalitos with continued water pistol fights. Luckily, Don Thomas runs the catering side of The Mafia and so we could have burnt the place down and it would still have been cool. The tequilas may have started here, and it may have been here that I persuaded seven honeys, and brought them with us to The Arc. Of course, I had no idea until chatting to one of them after the stripper had strut here very funky stuff that said seven honeys were all 18 and 19 year olds. It would appear that four of them and one self may have left together in a taxi. The rest is a blur.

Still, probably a cracking night for The Arc. Just wish I could remember the quiz.
Carm
Oh, I so need a picture of the soon to be married person in the Borat outfit!
Sin
I'm sure details will slowly seep into the light. I'd very much like a fuller picture too.
GreenTea
I see a beautiful gender-reversed Cinderella fairy tale emerging. Four of the seven honeys - Michela, Fransi, Verena and Tilde - left the Arc in a taxi (you're sure it was a taxi, not a pumpkin?) with our brave protagonist, and one of them is now going from door to door in the fine city of Munich, carrying the right shoe of her Prince Charming, desperately hoping to find the dainty little foot that fits.
Sin
Er... unsure.gif No. Don't think so.
SleeplessInMunich
A quick reminder to let you know that the quiz is on as usual in the Arc tonight. Everybody is welcome so I hope to see you there later on.
Dazza
The Arc
Monday night is Quiz Night at The Arc and once again I shall be offering a round of whisky drams to the winners of the "Whisky Round" of questions.

The questions are prepared and after complaints about the difficulty of last week's questions, they are little easier this week.
Not much, just a little.

See you there!
The Arc
Just a quick reminder for tomorrow evening as we once again host "Monday Quiz night at The Arc"

The last couple of weeks have seen much sunshine and not so many people coming to the quiz, but we have still run it, as we shall almost certainly do once again tomorrow.

Durng the last two events I have introduced a "Whisky Round" of questions which I shall do once again tomorrow.
If you would like a clue as to this weeks whisky round, then I would suggest you look not to Scotland!

See you there,
Keith
SleeplessInMunich
Ooh...can I join someones team then?
SleeplessInMunich
And if anyone has any suggestions for rounds they would like to have questions on or a country for the trivial pursuit round then please post them or PM me.
SleeplessInMunich
Anybody looking for a team can PM me or post here and I will try to help you out.
Topsy
the whisky round was ok, I suppose, but 11 questions ohmy.gif
bit much, IMO
and all that just to win a glass of something that most normal folk can't stand

highlight of the evening was a nostalgic-tastic guest appearance by the one and only Dr Matt, looking as tanned and sprightly as ever smile.gif
SleeplessInMunich
Just before I start on the quiz for tomorrow, I like to invite people to post some suggestions on some rounds they would like to hear. So if you have a country for the trivial pursuit round, a theme for the music or picture round or a topic for a question round then please post them here and I may just use them.
Showem
aka I don't have any ideas and desperately need some fresh input wink.gif
SleeplessInMunich
Do people want anagrams again tomorrow?
Topsy
don't mind anagrams as long as they are easier than last week's...
SleeplessInMunich
Last weeks were easy!!! Nearly everyone got full marks.
But okay, change of theme maybe...not just people?
Element2082
Hello all
So do people just tag along and join a team? First time tongue.gif
SleeplessInMunich
Yes, you can do that. There are always places available and you can just arrive and ask around to see who needs an extra team.
SleeplessInMunich
Although I don't want to write this, it would appear that fundamental differences between myself and the new management of the Arc on how the quiz is run and how people are dealt with requires that I do so.

So I just want to say that I shall not be returning to the Arc as the Quizmaster again or indeed as a customer. Last night was my last quiz there.

I have had a wonderful time since taking over from Dr. Matt last year and I would just like to thank everybody that has made it so great. So a huge thanks to the barstaff, Marissa, Troy, Andy, Hazza, Jason, Paul, Chris, Sara and anyone else that I may have forgotten...you guys were the best. Thanks for the help and support during that time.

Also I want to thank everyone that came to the quiz and took part. It was you as contestants that made the quiz possible. So thanks for showing up every week and for all the words of encouragement, the laughs and again the support. Some of you helped with questions, some of you provided pork scratchings but you all provided a smile and I hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as I did. And in the end I hope we all learned a few new things.

Thanks,
Dazza.
billybob
hey Dazza
you'll be sadly missed mate, always had fun at your quizzes
hopefully the Arc isn't going down the pan completely and will maintain the relaxed atmosphere it had under Hazza and Jason
Renia
Now I wish I had been a fly on the wall last night...
Showem
So all those questions I wrote for you on Sunday were in vain??? Just kidding of course. It seems a shame that such a successful quiz will lose the main person behind why it was successful, but I'm sure you didn't make the decision in haste. Good luck!
Grinner
Darren... Maybe its a case of "Good luck" rather than BAD MANAGEMENT... wink.gif

I gotta question for the next quiz... Who is Sideshow Bobs, Side show??? laugh.gif

Answers on a postcard or a sealed down envelope, please!!
woodstockthebird
i'm so sad– i lived for the Quiz- very sad i missed Mondays =( Is there another pub it could be moved to? So sad, tears
Bavaroo
There's only one word: WHY???

As Woodstock already wrote : We loved the quiz and loved goin there every Monday!!!

Thanks Dazza!!!

It's sad because it was always a nice bunch of people there (although we were sometimes the youngest ones) unsure.gif

I think we might give the GMs quiz a try next week...

Cheers

Chris (from the German/English/Australian/Irish/Ohio group) wink.gif
butler_helen
Bevaroo you missed out 'token German' from the ohio etc team.

Could you go do the GM's quiz, as I remember that being a bit on the hard side when we last went!
Marshbot
It is a nice bunch of people at the quiz.. just like before Dr Matt left (which we all had to cope with too, although this one has an extra serving of gossip).
Don't cry, or despair.. the Monday quiz will soldier on as always.

@Grinner,
Are you back on the drink then?

Bavaroo
Token German?? Who do you mean Helen??...no clue...

Yeah I think we should try the GMs Quiz next week!
Punchbear
In fairness lads, ye should go a bit easy on the "bad management" and "going down the pan" chatter when not in possession of the facts - that kind of loose denigratory banter has a knock-on effect not just for the pub but for the good folk who work there and whose livelihoods depend on the pub and its continued existence. Some of you know the staff and should perhaps keep this in mind.

Note Dazzas gentlemanly sparseness of detail - I respect this, maybe ye should too.

On a personal note, I enjoyed the quizzes and would hope for the return of a competent Quizmaster, it's not an easy task and the man did it well and with gusto. You couldn't really ask for more.
Grinner
QUOTE (Marshbot @ May 30 2007, 5:30 pm) *
@Grinner, Are you back on the drink then?

Marshbot, Certainly not.

My comment was made based on the facts that I know..

Being a part of Running two companies here in Munich AND both of then in the public service sector, I feel I was justified in what I said,

I have heard people say that THe Arc has changed, some like it and some dont... When the bar changed ownership, it was said that "The Arc" will carry o as normal.. there will be no change...

There was a simmilar case not too long ago where the owner of a bar wouldnt listen to good advice from the people here... the customers... the people that keep the cash coming over the bar!! What happened to that...? Yep, you guessed it, it is now another bar!

Following you comment, I for one, will not be returning to The arc, unless there are problems with the satellite system and then I will be glad to assist.

Good luck to The Arc, and all who sail in her!
Aussie Steve
Having been to the Arc a few times since and before the Arc changed hands I can say that both Jason and Hazza made you feel welcome as well as Keith and staff.

To Me the Bar still serve cold beer and you can watch International Sports. It was great to have the Arc open last Wendesday at Midday so a handfull of People could come down and Watch some Live Australian rugby League. As far as Im concerned thats bloody good customer service. Im not a bar fly but a patron who can see good happening in the Long term. Things change and its impossible to please Every patron at once. It seems to me that a couple of clicky bar flys have put a bad rep on a good pub where even the Ex employee left positve remarks in his post.

I think its only fair to give the someone a go who has not only invested alot of money but alot of time into a place where he has taken the challenge to Operate the Arc as a International Sports Bar.

Aussie Steve
Grinner
I agree with you Steve...

It is hard to please everyone all the time.. Had Marshbot not made the comment about me being back on the sauce, I wouldnt have bothered saying what I thought!

Simple, innit..

As I said in my previous post...

Good luck to The Arc.

The Arc
Over the last couple of days I have read the comments on here with interest and would now like to say a couple of things:

Firstly, at the beginning of the last quiz, as has already been pointed out, Darren did say that he will be away next week and that I will run the quiz myself next Monday. Nothing has changed here, next Mondays quiz will be run and the format will be pretty much the same as always, or as near as I am able to make it. Although I suspect my questions may be slightly easier than those from the more expert Darren.

As Darren also often requests, I am looking for your suggestions or preferences for question subjects.

So for all those like woodstockthebird, Bavaroo, butler_helen ... and many more, do come along at the usual time as I will do my best to make it a good evening of answerable questions.

Secondly to billybob, thanks for your comment, but no, The Arc is most certainly NOT going down the pan.
Since taking over I have had many positive comments and yes, a couple of negative ones too. But as has again been pointed out, one can't please all of the people all of the time.
In spite of what is being suggested on here by some, I am listening to ALL the comments and working on reducing those negative elements.
Jason and Hazza did a good job of building this business and gave me a great platform to work with, which I will do my best to build upon.

Anyway, back to the 'question' of the quiz; Monday Quiz Night at The Arc is one of the highlights of the week in the pub and yes, it will continue. Next week with myself as the temporary quizmaster, but that was always going to be the case as Darren is unterwegs.

See you next Monday!
Keith
butler_helen
wahooooo see you on Monday biggrin.gif and thank-you for letting me watch the simpsons last week - sign of a good pub when you can change the TV channel to suit the customers wink.gif
Bavaroo
Hey thanx Keith!

Thanx for the simpsons last week!! biggrin.gif

yeah but please no HollyOaks for Helen again... dry.gif

For the quiz next week...sounds good!

Malt-Teaser
I have just spent the evening working on the questions for this weeks quiz.

There will be six different categories, each with six questions.
Then the 1-2-4 round, an extra anagrams round, a beer round and tomorrow I will add a further drinks round.

See you Monday evening,
Keith
Grinner
Why not have a "Reverse" round one week??

You anounce the Answer, and the team with the closest representation to the question you wrote for that answer, gets the points..?

Just a Bump.. Thought!
butler_helen
OK so as volunteered last night I am putting together the questions for next week (subject to checking and clearance by Keith), so any suggestions for rounds would be much appreciated. Just to confirm there won't be a 'shopping and shoes round' laugh.gif
Bavaroo
How bout a comic series from the 80s and 90s round as Stu suggested tongue.gif

Chris
Malt-Teaser
I have now seen the questions proposed for next Monday's quiz and they look pretty good, (thanks b_h).

See you all there!
butler_helen
ok so all my questions have been checked and amended and are ready to be asked... I look forward to seeing people tonight biggrin.gif
