I haven't been and in talking to those who have and reading this kind of shit, I don't know why anyone would go. Who the fuck wants to relax after work under a fucking taskmaster?
He's a quizmaster, not a taskmaster. Actually, many people can have fun and relax even when somebody else has all the answers.

Instead of getting your panties in a bunch because people dare to challenge oh-so-infallible you, integrate that shit into the quiz with an intentional wrong (but plausible) answer. Plus 2 points for successfully challenging, minus one for incorrectly challenging. No more than one in 10-20 questions.
Disagree, it's not that offends Sleepless when someone challenges him but that it makes it a much later night for a large number of people, even if only a few are constantly challenging (because they think they are most probably, definitely, maybe right). Other quiz nights I've seen have had some kind of deterrent for smarty-pantses who are generally more time consuming than correct, or have I just been to brutal quiz nights??
Obviously contrary to your reports Bad Doggie, it's usually a pretty full pub on Mondays and a couple of these types can hold up everyone. It's not that Sleepless thinks he's smarter than you, it's just that he's had time to research the answer and the rest of the pub might prefer to trust him than the drunken genius.
If, on the other hand, everyone else is happy to have an open-ended finish time - then I'm sure they could change to rules so the quizmaster gets quizzed every question too. No need to be a princess about it.

>Lots of people go because they enjoy it.
You're using the present tense were the past perfect or simple past would be more appropriate. The comments following your post tend to support my hypothesis.
You have a hypothesis about a quiz night you don't go to? OK. Well, like Sleepless said, come along and test out your hypothesis. I think you'll enjoy yourself as much as everyone else.

I see a problem here and I wrote what others didn't want to publicly (no, I really have no shame), and I offered you a suggestion on how to cut down on the annoyance factor, turn the questioning into a game itself, and possibly make the quiz itself a bit more interesting.
I'm interested in the site and the community. When friends PM me in outrage over such meaningless shit as the silly third-grader rules you posted above, I'm reminded how this place isn't just another Intarwebs board. It's a place where most of us know each other and where the words and actions of some have rather clear and direct effects on others.
Well, you offered a suggestion but also basically reviewed the evening based on apparently "outraged" PM's sent to you about quiz rules on a night you never attend. OK, well - criticism is all good and fine but don't blame it on anonymous friends and don't pretend Sleepless was only responding to your innocent and helpful suggestion.
The quiz is pretty open to runnng how the quizzers who go would most like it... so send these people who are outraged yet shamed to chat to the quizmaster (or the staff if he's too scary). Nothing is set in stone, it's not a problem - but talking would be better than simply demanding new rules based on second hand information.
If anyone is too shamed (or polite, more likely) to say anything good or bad publicly then I know
the arc is more than happy to recieve PM's from you, ideas, moans, compliments.. whatever. It's never been a place for hard & fast rules. For those that PM'd BadDoggie with complaints about how the quiz is set up, I reckon if you send the same comments to the pub or Sleepless then something could have been done about them already. As per other businesses on TT, complain to people running the thing first so they can actually do something about it before angry 'brave' posts appear in public.

The event's supposed to be fun. The cash involved is miniscule. Who needs a bunch of bossy rules after a long day of work and a couple beers?
Looks like people are having fun to me.
The cash may be miniscule to you but it's more than I earn in a day. Those who take the quiz there always look pretty happy to walk out with it. Who are you to judge how much cash is miniscule to someone else?
To your last question: plenty of people, obviously.
@Sleepless: Maybe see what consensus you can gather from here to get an idea, but do some voting or questioning on the night. There's quite a few people who go regularly who are not TT'ers so you should include them too. I would have thought 1 or 2 points would be enough deterrent.. enough so if they are really sure they will still challenge you but won't just challenge every answer cos they fancy a stab at it. And maybe 1 point if you correct the quizmaster.
Anyone else who plays (or who wants to play) think that sounds fairer than 4 points? Or are these challengers really in need of a major deterrent?
