Obviously a nickname with more than one character connotation attached to it.

Hazza mate,
I don't want to get personal but in Oz 2 syllables are on the edge and perhaps a bit much to handle, never mind 4!
Famous Munich Ozzies,
Kev, Tone, Jayce, friend of yours I believe!
Hazza, you my friend have a pretty unique Ozzie nickname, 2 syllables, must be your sub-continent connections that make it sophisticated!
Although Nicknames are normally shortened forms, not always, see Wikipedia,
Etymology: In Middle English the word was ekename (from the verb to eke, "enlarge"; compare Swedish öknamn). Later, an ekename developed into a nickname when the "n" shifted through junctural metanalysis.
So originally it means "Enlarged" not shortened!
When your real name is short, then your Nickname is often longer, most of mine have been, oh! and quite insulting as well!
I thought the Sleepless Quiz man was quite good, but I stand corrected.
I shall now sit back and wait for the abuse to flow.

Depends on your quiz master style:
Bond Q - Slightly exasperated irritation - "Oh! Do pay attention Exile"
Start Trek Q - Sneering superciliousness - "I doubt any of your pathetic teams could even begin to understand the next question, let alone answer it"
BTW I think you need a theme song to herald the start of the Quiz "My Favourite Game" perhaps?
SleeplessInMunich

Good idea Exile and its by one of favourite bands

I think I will be more along the lines of Star Trek Q

Which Australia are you talking about?? Hazza has the standard Aussie nickname. I didn't even know you were allowed to use normal names there. Usually the parents name the baby, and then everyone else simply adds a 'zza' to the first few letters of their name.
Shazza, Dazza, Wazza, Muzza, Kazza, Razza etc.
Same format for both sexes. It's the law.

Drunk people and shark basins do not make a good combination in a pub.

Dr Matt will be sticking around after the quiz for a few beers with everyone. I had asked if he was available on any night before he goes - just for a farewell beer or 2, but unfortunately he's not.

I'm still looking for that snappy stage name and there is still a beer voucher up for grabs I think.
As for the quiz, I will be keeping it in the same format and style as Dr. Matt had it (at least at the start) but I would welcome suggestions for anything different that we could try out. There will be the usual categories of music round, visual round, 4-2-1 and 1-2-4 plus the 6 round of questions but if you would like to suggestion a topic for a round then please fire away. The joker will be staying as well.
Cheers,
SIM.

Sep 27 2006, 8:05 am
Finishing at 10:30pm is better for a lot of folk, not everyone has flexitime.
Keep it like it is for now, get a feel for it and then start with smaller changes gradually.*
Might actually make next week's - seeing as Tues is a bank holiday.
*apart from including the regular Songs of The Cardigans round of course
