Cool! I love quizzes! (even tho I'm crap!) How many people needed for a team? (people, do not let prior comment put you off!!)

Grrr - I would've loved to have gone to this when I was living here...booo.

So, who's up for making a team?
Showem
Oct 1 2004, 2:27 pm
Topsy and I are planning on a team. We used to regularly rake it in at O'Reillys. Sadly, often placing 2nd, whose prize was a flat of Guinness, which neither of us really drinks.

Hmmm, tempting, what kind of questions?
Graham
Oct 1 2004, 2:39 pm
ooh this sounds like an activity for me as well!
@ showem and topsy: can I be on your team since you are winners?
Showem
Oct 1 2004, 2:40 pm
Hmm... only if you promise to talk too much about touch rugby and have an area of expertise beyond the history of Wales.
Hellcat
Oct 1 2004, 2:44 pm
ooh, that sounds fun. i've never done one of these quiz night things.

7:30 start is not too late for a school night, and I shouldn't have too much work to do on Monday evening. I'll be up for joining someone's team.

the pub quiz at o'reillys was terrific - set the standard that no others have matched since. an english guy phil used to do it - not seen him for ages though. liverpool fan so maybe it's not so bad.
hope the one at the arc is as good.
the only problem at o'reillys was that it got too many people and the prizes became well worth winning (over 150Euros for a winning team) and so some teams started SMSing friends at home for answers. gits.

Oct 4 2004, 12:33 pm
Over the weekend, a few of us got together a team - think the definites were canuck, chewy, SteveNZ, Tartan and me. Are you guys all still up for this? Don't think I missed anyone off. So BB, there will be space on out team if the rules are that it is to be teams of 6. Interested?

Hey Petal, you forgot me !
petal
Oct 4 2004, 12:38 pm
Oh man, sorry pepper. Yeah I remember speaking to you (after spending all day at the wiesn), but I didn't think you were a def! So you are coming tonight then? BB - looks like you will have to set up another team, unless someone pulls out. Sorry.

no worries petal! happens when you travel as much as I've been this month. will float and drink (and vice versa) and hence bear no responsibilities...
canuck
Oct 4 2004, 2:02 pm
@BB: If we happen to win any huge prizes through the quiz ... it'll go towards helping you drink and float (or float and drink) all night long!! You have my word!! Happy BDay!

I talked to the quizmaster last night (yess, I have connections...) and he himself didn't know how many people the teams would be restricted to. Hazza was in no fit state to be making important decisions like that either last night, so we shall see. We talked about the possibility of putting a Faraday's Cage around the pub to stop cheaters from SMSing, but we didn't get far.
Topsy
Oct 4 2004, 2:14 pm
yeah - no sms-cheaters!!!
@hazza, can't you collect all handys on the way in to the pub or something?

if memory serves (which it usually doesn't after evenings at the Arc), my "handy" (ugh, memories of this meaning something else entirely in high school) doesn't get reception down there.
@canuck - oooh, thanks!
Jeeves
Oct 4 2004, 2:24 pm
@BB I was about to post that too. My memory serves to tell me the same thing. May not hold for all providers / phones though.

Oct 4 2004, 2:28 pm
Two different mobiles from 2 different providers had full coverage yesterday downstairs.
canuck
Oct 4 2004, 2:29 pm
D2 works down there. So if you've got a D2 handy...you'll win the quiz!!! No Faradays cage tonight...Hazza can't pull that off...he's not that smart!!
EDIT: Hazza's the greatest barman in the world, but he doesn't strike me as a physicist. Although one can never tell...
pepper
Oct 4 2004, 2:31 pm
With T-Mobile I even get coverage in Murphy's which surprised me a little. Vodafone is not so good once you go below ground level.
butterbean
Oct 4 2004, 2:32 pm
could be. I've got T-Shite.
@canuck - now, now, don't bite the hand that gives you drinks. Hazza is brilliant!
edit: ok, if pepper gets reception with T-Shite, then maybe it is my memory that's faulty. getting older and all, you know...

I would join but it starts at 7.30 tonight, right? I have Yoga in Pasing until 7.30 so couldn't make it before 8.
Guess I'll wait until the course finishes, then I can come.

Although I have connections, they had nothing to do with us winning the quiz tonight. Heh heh heh. Great work from Dr. Matt on the quiz, I think everyone would agree it was well run and the questions were fun.
Topsy
Oct 4 2004, 11:05 pm
yes, it was fun
thanks to Dr Matt
even more fun, because we won, and I just love to win

Oct 5 2004, 7:59 am
Great Fun
And i think my team had the best ethos, if we start by losing we have something to aim for by the end of the winter. And that sense of fulfilment when one day all the questions are on engineering, and we might stand a chance!
Great night guys.

Last week it started at 7:30pm and finished around 10:00, I think.
