I just noticed this thread

ski test thread

and want to go! Who would like to come with ? My car is dead right now, but there must be some way of getting there.

I picked out Söllden because it has guaranteed snow, nice big wide runs for warming up at the start of the season, and steaming nightlife.

Ischgl is another option, with the € 10 offer for 2 days' ski hire to test out gear. Also supposed to be a fab resort both for skiing, boarding and nightlife, and I've never made it there yet.

So, if you want to come, poll me! And if you have transport please let me know too

JB

Alternative weekend: Söllden 3/5.Dec.2004

I'd love to come! But I've only been once so I am still a defiantely a beginner! So are any other beginners keen??
Also what would be the estiamted costs?? Cos I am living on an au pairs wages!!
Arwen
would certainly be interested, not quite sure though if i'll make it (might have friends in town).
but let me know whats going on!
especially costs, as my budget's a bit tight!
Bean
I'm definitely interested! Count two more people in for the 27/28 weekend!

Are the snowboarding/ski schools open as soon as the slopes are open? We'll need beginner's lessons : until last week the closest we've ever got to snow was a snow cone!!

Any ideas of cost yet?

OK, I've PM'd Archie to get details. Let's wait and see how many other people want to go on the 2 weekends, then I'll sort it out. I've checked Ischgl for the wekeend after and there's accommodation left, but haven't checked Kaprun for this w/e yet...

Anyone who knows how to ski will know that skiing isn't cheap.

Costs depends on whether we go for a day or stay overnight (Guest Houses aren't cheap in any resort, say €35 in town and maybe €25 out of town). And we'd be likely to stay 2 nights and most places don't let you take a room just for one night, as they can fill it with longer-stay visitors and make more money. Also means you are there in the morning to get onto the runs before the crowds.

Then it depends if you have your own gear, and if not then if you want to do the Sport Scheck rental deal (€ 10 for whole weekend but that's only on the 3rd Dec w/e, not this one). Normally ski gear (for beginners' short skis, recommended) would be €15 per day, going up to €25 for VIP gear.

The ski pass depends on where we go, say €35 per day but less for beginners as you'll spend at least half a day on foot in theory.

Transport will be cheaper per head if some people offer their company cars with free fuel, if not reckon on about [B€ 10[/B] fuel costs.

If you take the Sport Scheck bus trip, you can only go for a day but save the accommodation fee... and of course the aprés ski ... which is the only reson to go skiing, really biggrin.gif

So basically the transport and ski pass are the only things you can't control. You can choose whether to stay overnight, and you can borrow or buy second hand ski gear to save there.

@JB keep up the good work. Its a pain in the arse organizing these trips but worth it in the end...

Ok..I posted this on another thread earlier but here it is again...These deals are really good, definately worth checking out...

If anyone's interested in buying a new Snowboard then Sports Experts at the OEZ have some great deals on Snowboard/Binding sets at the moment.

Some examples I've seen are Burton Freeride 'CLASH' board & Burton bindings for 300 Euros or Burton Freeride 'BULLET' board for 250 Euros.
There are also great deals on other boards/boots/bindings that would suit beginners & intermediates.
Cheapest was 170Eur for a board/boot/binding set that would suit a beginner.
Johnny_who?
söllden or ischgl, I don't care which resort cool.gif - let's just go!

Maybe we should check what the weather/snow conditions are like and then just choose the one which is better.

weather can't be worse than in Stubai last Sunday -18C and wind speed of 75km/h!

Well, I have accommodation for 5 people in Ischgl on the 3-5th, and also 3 poeple staying where Archie is. That's 2 cars. Maybe I should block the threads and start again. The 3-5th weekend looks most likely, as apart from countrygirl I think everyone can come... and on the 26th and 27th it's Thanksgiving, I have other opp's...
archie-tt
@JB Just PM'd you with Pension details for Kaprun. Should be a good weekend.
Looking forward to meeting up in Ischgl. Fingers crossed for some powder...
Brian
I am in for the 27/28. Unfortunately, no car yet but I will be up and running with auto in a month. And for anyone with space, I am offering 1 hour of free snowboarding lessons per day! Please let me know what you decide.
JoolyBooly
OK, so please confirm or cancel here / by PM by tomorrow midday.

At the moment I have 8 possibles with 7 seats in cars, so first come first served

We're / you're going to Kaprun (not even sure if I'm going yet!), leaving probably on Friday evening (is 3.5 hours away, glacier), accommodation should be about €35 but I need to check
JoolyBooly
OK, so looks like this weekend is planned. Either Shaggy will drive with Johnny_Who?, CountryGirl and Brian, or maybe you can all go with Archie's group as they have some spaces free.

Will send Shaggy the accommodation details so he can PM you all to sort it out. I won't, am going to Eurovol's for Thanksgiving instead.

For anyone else that wants to go there may 2-3 spaces in cars still, so PM me and I'll put you in touch...

JB
JoolyBooly

@JB i think the above comment is on the wrong thread - it should be on the 3/5 dec thread.

back to my coffee...

just for the record, this trip is cancelled, a couple of us are just tagging along with archie. The trip for the next week is also full unless someone offers transport and finds their own accommodation.
