The joy of driving safely - Germany

Is this a social disease
Iain & Siobhan
I am unterwegs on the autobahn frequently, Im not a slow driver. I derive great pleasure from driving smoothly and safely. I am beginning to wonder if this is some kind of mental disorder and am looking into some kind of road rage therapy. Where can I learn the necessary skills for the road. M. Yes you freak!! I feel the same way, you need to lower your mental age a little, uneducate yourself and eat more additives. Don't tell me you're having sex, that is a problem! If you're just too smart to understand why it is necessary to drive at maximum and tail-gate try banging your head against brick wall for several hours and drinking hard liquor, then head to the nearest Bmw and everything will work just fine biggrin.gif

Here's an idea: You could start a thread about all the bad drivers in this country.

Seems this board is distinctly lacking in those at the moment... rolleyes.gif

I dont think German drivers are bad, they just scare me 200kmh needs more than 3m to stop, So why do it .I really get great pleasure from driving safely I like feeling I am in control and the drive is comfortable for my passengers. I as I said am wondering whether this is a silly attitude. Dont get sensitive about german drivers the reason there are such posts would appear to be that non natives find the concept of driving aggressively as a norm hard to understand

Just wondering why you start a new thread on a topic that's already being discussed in another thread - which happens to be one of the most popular threads today. I didn't even mention German drivers, so no need to get defensive.

30kph needs more than 3m to stop, what speed are you driving "carefully" at to be able to stop in 3m?
Iain & Siobhan
I was trying to say that I find it unnerving when I am driving seemingly fast and a car is behind me at a distance of 3m or less. I could not do this as I know I could not react in time if there was a problem, also I cannot get a clear view of road conditions ahead, I can only predict, which is a tad stupid I believe. I like giving space and having space to react with some security
Allershausen
Then move over and let the people who want to go fast overtake. The outside lane is for overtaking, if you're not overtaking, get the hell out of it! tongue.gif

Honestly at that point the thing to do is concentrate on what's going on in front, ignore the idiot behind you, and pull in when safe to do so and let him continue to his heart attack alone. I usually wiggle my little finger at him as he passes in a fashion designed to indicate my feelings about his demonstration of manliness.
Iain & Siobhan
I mean when I am overtaking, yes I know the overtaking lane is for overtaking as I learned and I use it for overtaking. I pull in to the right hand lane when it is clear ( idont call it the slow lane) but I cannot help that when I am overtaking I need time to pass the car in front, If I see a car coming fast before I overtake I let the foot of the gas to allow him past before I move not as other people like doing blink the blinker once and pull out immediately. I may have mentioned. I feel frustrated when I cannot enjoy driving in a safe manner. I enjoy being safe ( call it a perversion if you will) I ENJOY IT

From the Beggs'Oh'paedia

"...after the downfall of hitler, anything which could be considered right wing was severly frowned apon and this has entered the German motoring psyche. The average motorist in the GBS club (grey, black and silver cars that are allowed to travel exclusively in the fast lane of the autobahn)has an inherent fear of the right and anything coming from the right (be it politically, socially, or from the right lane) and the thought that a car from the right being able to squeeze into the gap left between cars thus increasing the membership of the aforementioned club is unimaginable to these members as these often slower vehicles represent ze war which ve do not talk about..."

Your assumptions are wrong.

1) Anyone driving slower than you is an asshole.
2) Anyone driving faster than you is a maniac.

That's more like it.
Allershausen
Autobahns were built to enable troops people to get to their destinations as quickly as possible, if you're not in a hurry, please use the landstrasse and leave the autobahn to those who know how to use it.
Small Town Boy
That's no good, then they'd all be empty!
Iain & Siobhan
Whats with you today Mr Allershausen, I know how to use the auto bahn. That doesnt preclude the possibility of finding some of the other users a little lacking in care over their and others safety. Just look on you tube and you can ser the carnage of people not being careful. I dont see why you consider I dont know how to use an autobahn just because I feel I would like not to be one f the pictures on the side of the motorway of dead people. I was trained in safe driving on a police based course in England, yes I can drive fast, but no I dont want to die right now thanks a lot. If driving on the autobahn means dying to you allershausen then get it over quickly, do the geisterfahrer thing. There is no need to drive dangerously when you aregoing fast. It can be done safely!!! AS I said after police training I can drive fast and use my brain at the same time. I get pleasure from driving safely it needs more skill!
Bumpy
Germans are all trained as well. That's why we have so many Fachidioten here...
Allershausen
Sorry, I couldn't find a tongue in cheek smiley, it's Friday afternoon, the sun is shining, as of 2 hours ago I no longer possess a car, in 2hours time I'm off to a beer garden and I was merely jesting with you.

This is yet another stream of consciousness thread. blink.gif

It just appears randomly with no apparent link or connection to any point to be made or discussed.

I like choc ices, me.
Iain & Siobhan
Me Too Magnums are better though but maybe that should be saved for another post Langnese V Walls, I have searched the rules, random posts dont appear to be a problem. Dont understand the relevance of your post it just appeared with no apparent link. Happy Not St Patricks Day
Iain & Siobhan
OK Allershausen,
All is foregiven
As for the randomness of this thread, I just realised yesterday how stressful it is to compete wit unsafe speed freaks I am not linking to threads about bad driving because, I just dont understand the motrway mentality. People are inherently not safe and not in control. This does not fit with generalisations on the German psyche ( I know its a generalisation, dont beat me up over it or Ill start an icecream thread)
