Whats up everyone?
I have had some interest in this so i am going to throw it out there. Do you like playing games? Well I do the problem is none of my friends do. I propose a meetup for all us gaming nuts to get together, drink a few and play some games. You know, Rock Band, SSBB, Sports its all possible. Mix that in with a litte poker and we got the coolest meetup in Toytown, well... minus the women since I don't expect too many women gamers to show up!
Anyhoo for the first meetup lets just meetup at a beergarded or cocktailbar and get to know everyone, then we can go from there. Lets try for a weekend in June, like maybe the 6th???
So if youre intersted post.
I will start a list.
Coolest people in Munich:

Holy shit!
I didn't expect this many so far, thats right on.
I pre ordered Rock Band the other day, gonna be good to finally get it but did you know that you have to buy the game separate from the bundle. Alltogether 240€!!! Sometimes we get ripped off here in Europe, considering the game comes with the bundle in US for 160 bucks!! Its the shipping which kills the price, as it costs harmonix a shitload to ship to europe.
Oh well, I need to pick a place for our first meet up, probably gonna be a pisser, but it will be cool to hang out with people that enjoy the same hobby.
I will keep you all informed.

Ok I think its time we think of a palce to meet. How about a good ol pub. I am open for suggestions. We will mark it for 6pm so we can meet up right after work/school.
So please suggest away. The only Irish pub that I ahve been to recently was Ryans Muddy boot, and its a small quiet place, at least for a while until everyone shows up.
I am open to whatever.

If the weather's nice enough, we should go to a beer garden.
Brennz
May 20 2008, 3:27 pm
Yeah we could do that. What beergarden? My favorite is Michealigarten, but there are many other gooders.
Hofbraukeller is another nice one.
I donno say what you want and if no one says anything in a week I will just set the place.

ps. been playing Rock Band since Thursday, its pretty awsome!
I can play GH3 on hard, but my timing seems a bit off in RB... weird, because the tracks are heaps easier. Im using a GH3 controller though...
Brennz
May 23 2008, 11:27 pm
Sweet, I just got it today and played it for 4 hours staight. I could handle the drums on easy pretty good, and yeah I play also on hard and its much easier than GH3. I do not have the GH3 controller though, which is MUCH better. Well I do have it but its the wireless wii version. I think I will get a 360 one separate.
GH3 I am at the last level on hard and I cannot beat that god damn devil. Arg!
Rock Band kicks ass though!

hmmm, I went to Saturn near the Staccus to buy the rock band instrument pack today, but they said it wasnt in till Monday...
Whats the quality like? Do you live near Sendling? up for a jam?
Brennz
May 24 2008, 11:41 am
Well I pre ordered mine at the gamestop at
PEP. I also went to saturn just to see, and it was not in. I am sure they are just to lazy to unpack them all. Saturn always unpacks there friday shipment at the last minute unless its GTA4.
I live in Perlach Rameresdorf which is close to sendling kinda! I am having a Canadian Club meetup today at a beergarden but you are welcome to come since its open for any english speakers with an interest in Canada! I am the leader so you can come. Its at Michealigarden at 2pm, check our thread for details. I will pm my cell if you decide to come.

I aint givin' EA the money for this, its ridiculous how much it costs here compared to the US price.
Still, is it good? I sometimes buy stuff anyway after ranting about how much it costs!

Also, as our meetup has been planned for June 6th, I was wondering is anyone getting Ninja Gaiden 2 for the Xbox 360 on that day?

From what I hear, the guitar in Rock band is utter crap...
I will buy a second hand Guitar Hero controller, and a standard USB mic... Maybe EA will earn some of my money with the drums at a latter date... maybe...
Brennz
May 27 2008, 1:33 pm
Well it was a gift so I shelled out the money for the game only. But Dave is right the guitar is just so shitty, especially after playing the guitar hero one. I will definatly have to pick up a 360 guitar hero one. Damn I have too many periferals.
As for Ninja Gaiden II, I will be picking it up as soon as it is out. The first one I am still playing on the Ps3, hard as hell but it gets better. NGII looks to be more balanced and more bloody thats for sure.
I still have to finish GTA4, that will take forever. Other than that I am still working on Lost Odyssey, Ratchet and Clank: TOD, Resistance, Mass Effect, NG1, Rock Band, No more Heroes, Zack and Wiki, MP3, Oblivion... so many games on my list to complete.
I will have to pick a place now that its next week. If the weather is good lets meet at
Hirschgarten, its relativly easy to get there and plenty of room. If its rainy we can just decide together where we can go. There are some good placed nearby.
Any nay sayers say I. Otherwise I will make it official.
peteb
May 27 2008, 2:19 pm
Sounds good to me! And if it rains I'm sure us gamers have no problems sitting inside somewhere!

I share your pain with the games man, I've got loads I have to get back to finish too! I'm at the end of GTA IV after about 50 hours...
Ninja Gaiden II looks class though and will be a nice change of scene after spending so much time on GTA IV.

BTW, I was at the Videospielkulture thingy last night, it was pretty sweet! Its near Sendlingertor every second monday. Its free, and they have about 17,000 games to play, on everything from C64 to PS3. They have pretty much every game published for every system and console in the last 6 year from what I could see, and beers are 1.50 euro.
Its a promo thing for a small game studio. If anyone is interested I could try and sort out some invites.

I'll try and come along to this gamer night. Be good to have a few drinks and talk shit about video games with people that don't reply "I'm sorry, who the fuck are you and why are you rambling on about cool the Vic20 was, whatever that means?"
I've bunged a few of TT gamertags onto my xbox gay friends list, but not playing it much right now.

As far as GC goes, I think you can pick up advance tickets in Saturn - about €30 for a 4 day ticket, €12 per day otherwise.
Accommodation might be a little more expensive though.
Definitely down with Augustiner for next week.

Last year the DB had a special offer for the GC, it was only 50euros return or something like that. You can also camp at the GC at the "Freestyle" event, but I wouldn't recommend it, its miles from the convention centre and is in like school playing fields. The water in the "pool" that they advertised was green and had some stuff floating in it, lovely! Ahh, it wasn't too bad in fairness, but was far from what we were expecting.
The GC itself though was great, and I'd recommend going on the business and press day if you can get tickets using your company name, as it is much more relaxed and you actually get a chance to play some games rather than queuing up.

Yea definitely, there is an option on the form for freelancers.
Brennz
May 30 2008, 8:35 am
Your a freelancer?? What publications or sites have you written for?? Thats too awesome.
I really want to get into the industry, but all I have is enthusiasm and love for gaming. My writing skills are not too shabby, but its always seemed like a dream and I never have actually gotten out there to try.
I am down, for sure, we can plan it next friday. If my girlfriend is down for it she can drive and we can take her dads van which holds about 8. We should book asap though. I will book the dates off of work, its gonna be awesome. Lots of cool stuff should show up this year, I really want to see RE5, Alan Wake, FF13, LBP, and some new Wii titles that might be there that are not petz, catz or dogz.
There will be lots to discuss at the meetup, and if you are into gaming as much as me, it will be a great time. I am anxious to hear your opinions and whatnot. Hopefully the weather is like it is today.

I've not done much writing to be honest, I mostly do freelance QA work for one or two software companies in Munich (no games testing as yet though) but like you I've longed to get into the games industry and I'm planning on eventually starting some independent development by the end of the year. We can get the tickets from Saturn's online store as well, so it's only really accommodation that needs to be sorted out - but I guess we can discuss that next week.
Personally, I can't wait to try out/see stuff like the new Prince of Persia, Fallout 3, Beyond Good and Evil 2 (if it's there) and pretty much everything you listed. Hopefully David Jaffe's (God of War, Twisted Metal) new game turns up, although from my understanding that's still in very early stages of development.
Brennz
May 30 2008, 1:25 pm
Sounds great. My dream job is also in development. What other game studios are in Munich other than Midway? The problem by me is I would like to be a creative director, and thats a hard position to get in to.
It would be cool to creat a game for the XBLA PSN Wiiware network. Its a start and a great way to get into the industry, but realistically I think I would have to start with flash games. I have many ideas, but unfortunatly they are all for greater endeavored games.
BTW, my gamer tag is Brennzky, PSN name is Brennzky and my wii number is ... I do not play it online because its a pain and it does not support PPPoE and I am too lazy to by a wireless router that supports it.
