Has anybody flown with them? Do they actually charge extra for putting your suitcase in the hold - even when it's within your luggage allowance?
Darkknight
They are a low cost airline. Charging for every little thing wouldn't surprise me one bit..
I'm surprised they even give you an free allowance...
boomtown_rat
might be an idea to look on the website I guess...
boomtown_rat
took me about 30 seconds on their website to find out that they do seem to charge
Yarra
Thank you so very much boomtown rat and Darkknight. Yes, I did look at their website but having never done a trip with a low cost airline I was in disbelief that they wouldn't include at least one suitcase with the cost of the ticket... (Guess, I should travel more). Thank you for your prompt responses...

are you sure you read the website correctly, BR? The bit I read stated that 20kg of checked luggage was included for economy class passengers and that you only pay £7 per kilo if you go above this.

QUOTE
Luggage

Passengers travelling flybe economy are allowed to check-in 20kg of hold luggage as well as bring one piece of hand luggage on board with a maximum weight of 10kg.

* What is the charge per kilo for extra luggage above the standard allowance?

Answer:
Excess baggage is carried on a standby basis only. Carriage will only take place if there is sufficient space available in the aircraft hold and will be subject to a charge of GBP7.00 (EUR10.00, CHF15.00) per kilo

I've flown with them. Yes, you do pay for checked luggage.

The one flight I had booked with them from Hamburg to Birmingham was cancelled due to technical problems with the aircraft. Given that I've had the same problem with Easyjet out of Munich, I suspect this is a problem with less-popular flights on budget airlines - they only have one aircraft in Hamburg, and if it has problems, the flight has to be cancelled.

Fly-be is at least partnered with BA, so they were able to get us all on a later BA flight to Heathrow and bus us to Birmingham. Not much fun for the kids.

Thank you Matt T, I was hoping someone who had actually flown with Flybe would reply. Thanks for the confirmation that they charge for checked baggage. I thought as much but it certainly appears to be not as clear as it could be on their website. I've read there are often cancelled flights, and unhappy passengers so I am hoping that I will actually get to the UK next week and of course back again...

blowwavedave, can you post a link to your quote because as you can see if you follow the link I posted their website clearly says 20kg for economy, nothing about it being pre-purchased, so I am totally confused.

FlyBe is 15% owned by British Airways after BA sold their regional operations (BA Connect) to FlyBE.
