Sorry for the late response. If you have a land-line and access to internet at home, try PeterZahlt. It's free. Just enter your landline number and the number you want to call. Just have to watch a few ads while you talk...

Search on TT...this topic comes up very, very regularly. There are a number of options.
My post and the rest of this thread are relevant; there are lots of other threads as well:

Take a pay as you go option with a provider like maxxim (8 cents per minute for all calls), and then use a service like voipcheap. Buy a 10 EUR credit with VoipCheap and you get 300 free minutes per week (1ct/min after that). They give a access number for Germany. So in total, you pay 9ct/min for a call to US/Canada.

Yeah a dial around service pay as you go like Onesuite.com is your best bet. We use them for calling N. America and vice versa and saves tons of moeny versus local provider rates.

With Onesuite, you can use it as a phone card or as voip that means more access and better rates.

Did you sign up to promote OneSuite? Just a thought.
In any case, their offer is way more expensive than other options discussed here.

Bear in mind jvinz is (or claims to be) in Asia where it might be cheaper than local providers, which is his comparison. Having said that I can't deny there are MUCH cheaper ways to make transnational calls. ($0.41/min to call a US number from a German mobile? -wow!)
