Hey there, I'm a canadian who has been in Hamburg for a year now, and I unfortunatly did absolutly nothing last July 1st.
So this year I'm going start early and ask if anyone is planning at least a small get together to celebrate Canada's birthday.
First, I suppose, is to ask if anyone would be interested at all.

count me in and I'll bring family plus my brother and wife who are also Canadian. We did a Canadaday meet in the Stadtpark one year with BBQ.
Wanna come this weekend to the Stadtpark for "munch with the bunch"?
Marie-Anne
May 8 2008, 8:32 am
Yeah I saw that barbecue thing, was thinking of posting that I'll attend, then I realized I had no kids (damn, how did I miss that one) and it seemed more like a family thing. But I might show up, will have to talk to the husband once he is back from the business trip first...but I'm definetely interested.
As for Canada day, depending on what and were I can probably drag along my husband and a few people (all german, but great people) A barbecue sounds great, is there a curfue on the park though? I wouldn't want to get there and be kicked out early. Then again, for the ones who want to, we could always crawl to a nearby pub afterwards.

My husband and I don't have kids but we are going to the picnic tomorrow. And I know a Canadian that might be interested in a Canada day thing.
Marie-Anne
May 10 2008, 4:24 pm
The Canada day thing doesn't have to be joined by Canadians only! Its an excuse for a party

to which everyone is welcomed.

May 10 2008, 4:46 pm
Well 2 Americans here who are up for a party. We'd also like a get-together for 4th of July.

We're gonna need flags.
We're gonna need flags, and beer, and a couple barbeques, and fireworks.
Moosehead, or Steamwhistle, or Keith's Pale Ale, or some Amsterdam Nut Brown...
I am starting to think about how great it would be to have a 24 of any one of those.
Anyone taking a trip home before Canada Day? :)
Happy Victoria Day, by the way. God bless 'er, and the official start of summer.

Sorry, I've been busy this week. Bit of a whirlwind!
So, how about listing possible places where we could hang out? Unless someone owns a house with a proper background which they would be willing to share, I suggest a public place such as the Stadtpark or we can invade a Scottish pub...or any pub. I will not, unfortunatly, be going to Canada before July 1st (will be going later in the summer though, I can take small orders for those who want some important dearly missed Canadian goods)
I have 1 huge canadian flag, and 1 t-shirt...I can find some facepaint somewhere lol.
Mapleleafdude

Stadtpark is always good and very central plus space.
t-shirt is not necessary, topless will do

Good news,
the importer of Molson and Dare products is gonna fork out some stuff(give aways). I'm gonna need a head count(approx.) so no one goes empty handed.
1.Who wants some Molson Canadian?
2.Who wants some Dare cookies?
3.Who wants me to write "I'm a Canadian gal!" on there bare breast?

Give aways? As in "Giving away"? As in free graf?
Sounds too good to be true, but if the molson faerie is doing rounds,
she can always stop at my door.

Give away!?
How? Why? Where?
Woot!
On a different note...July 1st is on a Tuesday. Does it suit everyone who wants to celebrate to party on a word day afternoon/evening? Are we going to do this at the Stadpark, or does someone have maybe a backyard/better location, in mind/to offer?
Woot beer!

Marie-Anne
Jun 11 2008, 9:12 pm
haha, that was what I was aiming for. I think doing in the Saturday before, or after, makes a bit more sense for us poor expats. But, where are all the other canadians? I know there to be at least 3 more around here!! No?
Shall I be daring and suggest a joint American/Canadian celebration? (dont hit me!!) We can call it Everything Above Mexico Day!
Figgy
Jun 12 2008, 7:25 am
Well, if it was on the weekend I might be able to convince the family to join the festivities. We already have the flags and T-shirts. Can anybody make poutine, beaver tails, or butter tarts?
btw - that's a nice picture of me you posted dude!
