Tips for a holiday around Meersburg - Germany

We want to take our huge new tent to Bodensee this summer and are looking for a quiet campsite close to Meersburg, ideally on the lake. Anyone got any suggestions? Google has note served me well on this.

Also are there any vegetarian restaurants in the area or at least restaurants that have a good selection of veggie food?

There are some camping areas in Konstanz - and in Litzelstetten & maybe Dingelsdorf too (basically Konstanz). There is a nice soup/salad place in Konstanz that serves vegetarian and vegan soups. Dünnele (really thin crusted pizza, often with cream - not traditional red sauce) is also quite popular - which can be ordered vegetarian. I highly recommend Old Mary's Pub in Konstanz - yummy Dünnele and their salad dressing rocks.

There's a camping site in Hagnau (http://www.campingplatz-alpenblick.de/) and another one in Staad/Konstanz (http://www.campingplatz-konstanz.de/). From Staad, you can take the ferry to Meersburg, which will get you there in 15-20 minutes.

Take a look at the ADAC camping web site. (German auto club, like the British AA) They have an online camping guide for Germany and Europe that shows many campgrounds.

It is in German, but quite easy to navigate around the maps with just a little bit of German. From the main page, click on "Zum Camping-Caravaning Führer" which is pretty much in the middle of the window. In the new window that opens, click on "Ziel" (goal or area you are interested in). Type in "Bodensee" into the text box, and click on "Finden". You can then decide whether you want to further narrow down your search by country (A=Austria, CH=Switzerland, D=Germany) or even town, or else just click on the first link given for a map of all 28 campgrounds around Bodensee that they have in their database. Clicking on any of the triangular campground indicators on the map will give the address, contact info and further details.
