We are very new to the Mainz area and need a new clutch fitted in our ancient Mazda 323. It also needs a new TUV in a few weeks.
Would appreciate any recommendations, as the few places i have called are quoting all sorts of crazy prices. Many thanks

Might be a bit far for you but I always take my Mazda to Autohaus Zurell in Darmstadt. Been going there for two years--only good experiences.

Your looking at about 200 to 300 euros for the clutch alone, and then roughly 3 to 4 hours of labor. Technically its easy to replace the clutch itself, what makes it difficult and costly is everything you have to remove or disconnect before getting the transmission out. I know you can save money by going to the freie werkstatts because they don't charge the outrageous prices on labor that the dealerships charge. Just an example, our labor rate per hour is 65 euros per hour, while the VW/Audi, and Mercedes dealerships nearby charge something like 115 to 140 euros per hour. Also sometimes if you get a chance to talk to one of the mechanics in a freie werkstatt, they will sometimes offer to do the job on their spare time. Meaning they will charge you say 25 to 35 euros per hour and ask you to provide the parts. If you'd like I can get you a price quote from us but I would need the build year and motor size or code to be able to do that. Also we are just outside of Offenbach so its about a 35 to 45 minute drive from Mainz.

thanks for getting back to me about the mazda clutch. I can actually get hold of the clutch set for a very good price, as i am visiting the u.k this weekend and my car-trader friend has ordered one for me.
Wondered if you would be interested in fitting it for me. If so, could you quote me a price and when you may be able to do it. It is a 1324cc 1991 323 model. Many thanks,
