Nice places to live near Putzbrunn - Munich

Info on nearby towns and locations
La Banane
Hi ya,
This is a great site! Enjoying having a read through and getting a feel for what Munich is like. I did a search on places/districts to live, but wondered if anyone could give some advice/tips on nice locations to live that are not far from Putzbrunn?

We are a couple in our 30s with no children and no immediate plans to have them. We like to be close enough to the shops and city life, but also be able to enjoy Sunday afternoons in the park or along a river or lake. We don't mind taking public transport, but would prefer to keep the number of transfers minimal.

Your help is much appreciated. smile.gif

Why Putzbrunn? Not a lot out here.

The Bus service has just been improved though so it's not completely isolated any more.

A car is all but essential though.

Somewhere like Ottobrunn might suit you. If you want the river Grünwald but it's pricey.

I do not know where Putzbrunn is.
But I could recommend two places which is nice to live.
Gern(U1) and Partanchplatz(U6).
For both of these two places I had lived in for some times.Nice, quiet, easy to take public transportation.
Definitely, there are a lot of palces in Munich very nice.Good luck!

I do not know where Putzbrunn is.

It's only just Munich. Just inside the A99 on the south west side of the city. More it's own small town than anything to do with Munich.

Neubiberg is right next to Putzbrunn and it has a S-Bahn station, as is Ottobrunn. Or Haar. (If you want to stay in the suburbs.) In Munich there would be Waldperlach and the area around Neuperlach Süd which are close and have better transportation (particularly Npl. Süd).
Just make sure where you are going has a S-Bahn station nearby so you do not have to reply on bus service. A friend of mine lives in Putzbrunn and I live in Neubiberg (when I am in Munich). I can walk to the S-Bahn within 5 minutes which is great. For her, when she goes out at night or on the weekends it is really hard to get home without a bike/car/cab. (She does have a car and bike but when she has had alcohol, she basically has to take a cab from Neuperlach Süd or Neubiberg.)

Well I can't exactly say I live/lived there but I spent a whole summer there with my friend... his dad is the mayor of Putzbrunn. Nice little town, the public transportation isn't that great but they're working to get better bus service there. I would definitely recommend Ottobrunn since it has the S6 readily available and it's a strait shot to the city. Or Neuperlach Süd is also good, the U5 runs right through there but it's a little more urban than you might be looking for. Another option that hasn't been listed would be Vaterstetten which is not too far from Putzbrunn. It's a little further from the city, just outside the innenraum, with s-bahn service via the S4. The problem with Putzbrunn is that it pretty much lies between two major s-bahn routes (S6 and S4) and too far outside the reach of the U-bahn.

I hear Neubiberg and other places on the S-Bahn should be treated with some caution as far as ease of transport goes - a friend of mine who lives there says the S-Bahn service is pretty rocky, especially late at night, so she gets the U5 to Neuperlach Süd and badgers her husband to collect her (or gets a taxi). (But maybe she's just a lazy-ass!) We live in Neuperlach Süd, 5 minutes' walk from the U-Bahn (15 minutes to the centre of town) and it has a village-y feel and is green and leafy as well as being handy for shopping (PEP shopping centre, local shops and supermarkets, farmers' markets) and easy to get into town.

S-Bahns run every 20 minutes, every 10 minutes during rush hours. Last train during the week leaves the city round 0:20, on weekends there is another late train at 2:20. So when I go out late, I prefer my car ... What area is best to live, depends on whether you prefer being close to the city (then Neuperlach or Trudering with U-Bahn connections would be the best option), or whether you prefer the suburbian-village kind of thing (then I also can recommend Vaterstetten-Baldham-Zorneding-Neubiberg).

btw, Putzbrunn is South-EAST of Munich.

The rush hour 10 minute tact does not apply to the S6 that runs through Neubiberg and Ottobrunn unless things have changed since January.
Last train thing sounds about right.
If you are not by yourself ( would not recommend this to a lady who's by herself) you can also catch a nightbus that goes to Waldperlach and then walk through the Schopenhauer Wald (that's line N45 that leaves at Ostbahnhof) = a forest which takes about 15 minutes from the bus stop to the other side of the forest (the walk through the forest is only five minutes). That bus runs throughout the night. Of course if you live far from there (the exit of the forest) then that isn't very helpful.
I have done this many times during the day (it takes me about 20 minutes to walk home from the bus stop), and once I think during the night with my brother. It is probably safe regardless of whether you are a woman or a man or by yourself or not, but just to be on the safe side, I personally choose not to walk there (forest, no lights) by myself when it's dark.
