Using the wrong surname to book a Lufthansa flight

Experiences using a maiden name by mistake

I have booked a (Lufthansa) return flights for myself and wifey from MUC to LHR - due to a momentary lapse of concentration, I booked her ticket in her married name, although she has kept her maiden name for various reasons and her passport is in her maiden name.

Lufthansa have advised that it is OK if I have the marriage certificate with us when we travel. Does anyone have a similar experience and some re-assuring words for me.

My main concern is that we get accepted onto the plane in MUC, but get refused in LHR. It was a cheapy ticket that preculdes changes.

Thanks in advance.

I've had this happen often and it really isn't a big deal. I've never had to show any ID but if you bring your marriage license you'll be totally covered.

I had a similar situation with a codeshare Air Canada/Lufthansa flight. Got married, then next year flew to Canada. Credit card in my new German married name so ticket also, but Canadian passport still maiden name. Brought along my marriage certificate and had absolutely no problems. They didn't even bother looking at it. Have a good trip!

I just traveled to Chicago on Lufthansa with a ticket that was booked in my married name and a passport that remains in my maiden name. I had my original marriage certificate, and it was no problem at all. Once you arrive at your destination, you only have to show the immigration officials your passport, they have no idea what name your ticket was booked under and they don't seem to care.

Edit: I've had a similar experience as the above poster. Sometimes, they don't even bother looking at my marriage certificate, especially if I'm traveling with my husband and we have 2 tickets booked in his last name.

Just bring your marriage certificate, and it will be fine.
