My name is Tom (24) and I am currently at the beginning of a three-month stay in Berlin. In September, I must return to England to take up an English teaching post at a private school just outside of London.
Not only am I an experienced teacher, I am also extremely well-trained to use the English Language: i studied English Lang. and Lit. between 2003-2007 at the University of Oxford. Therefore, if you are, or indeed know somebody who is, looking to really stretch their English language skills - written or spoken - do not hesitate to contact me.
I will be charging 15 euros per hour. You will not find the same quality of one-on-one tuition at this price anywhere else in Berlin.
Please respond to this post and i will pass on my email address.

And that is because most Germans are not interested in interpreting Chaucer or Donne, they need basic language skills. Next time you advertise, try charging more and not mentioning your age, or else make it known that you are looking for experience teaching the language itself.

I suggest you review the grammar rules for capitalization before you begin teaching.

Why is everyone just so picky on here? A guy logs on to inquire about employment and the only two replies are to have a go at his advert?

I agree with the post above.

Oh, the irony.
I wrote my post in earnest. If he wants more money, he'll follow the advice given. But... perhaps you're all right after all... We should make a general policy to reward and encourage clumsy lack of foresight and downright ignorance because it's silly to expect more from ourselves. Let's just all stay a little bit dumb. It feels so nice.

If you are offering your skills as an English teacher then at the very least, the English skills displayed in your advertisement should be impeccable. First impressions are everything. Indeed, Amy, good on him for taking the initiative and going for it, but Fribble is correct in pointing out that he would be better off leaving out the fact that he's basically just out of college and mistermagoo is right with his comments regarding the post content. The post might attract business on a website for German speaking people, but an advertisement for English language tuition on a website specifically for native English speakers is likely to attract comment unless it is of a very high calibre. This one simply is not. It can only be of benefit to the original poster to be made aware of this.

jesus christ man, give the guy a flippin' break.
Tom, try advertising on kijiji.de. More germans use that site, because most of the time whenever a German attempts to post on tt, he or she is invariably criticized by people who seriously need to get a life and stop criticizing every chance they get.

Jesus. I´m new to this site but I´m not liking some of the vibes. I agree with everyone who thinks Tom has been brutalised on this thread. Why so much negativity? fribble, you had some constructive comments, but you said it in a sarky way. When you sign up to TT, it says don´t write anything you wouldn´t be prepared to say face to face. Oh no, now I´m writing negative thoughts.

Oops, sorry, I forgot to put on my happy fluffy rainbows and kitties socks that day. Really, I never write things I wouldn't say to someone's face. Including negative thoughts, if I feel the need to express them and I am not running a PR campaign that day for cuddliest forum poster. Snark is part of the spectrum of conversation.

Do you know how many people move to Berlin trying to get work as an English teacher? They are a dime a dozen! If the poster wants to set himself apart or have a realistic shot at this, then his post needs to be more professional. End of story. I would rather hear the truth then meaningless "go for it" nonsense.

Yes they are a dime a dozen! Everyone's here and they want the job and yes you're right he should sell himself?! But if he doesn't then I don't see why he should be ripped to pieces about it? Surely his teaching and how he does that should be the benchmark as to whether he's actually any good at it? The only way anyone will find out is when they get taught by him, and then recommend him, or not. If they don't then I'm sure it won't be because of his badly spelt advert.

You've said it all. English teachers are a dime a dozen...he should sell himself.
Why would anyone request lessons from someone who demonstrates themselves as having less than adaquate English skills when there are plenty of others out there who present themselves so much better. He is far from being ripped to pieces. More so he was given some very useful advice. First impressions are everything. He might be a spectacular teacher and perhaps those taught by him would pass on a word-of-mouth recommendation, but I for one would be unlikely to find out as I would not be impressed by how he presented himself in his inital ad. It's fairly simple really.

I'm sure most non-native english speakers (the people his ad is amed at) would actually miss the slight errors in tom's post to be honest! lol.
This is probably a bad place to offer Englisch lessons in any case.
