I just noticed this thread
ski test threadand want to go! Who would like to come with ? My car is dead right now, but there must be some way of getting there.
I picked out Söllden because it has guaranteed snow, nice big wide runs for warming up at the start of the season, and steaming nightlife.
Ischgl is another option, with the € 10 offer for 2 days' ski hire to test out gear. Also supposed to be a fab resort both for skiing, boarding and nightlife, and I've never made it there yet.
So, if you want to come, poll me! And if you have transport please let me know too

Alternative weekend: Söllden 26/27.Nov.2004

Ischgl is a great resort - probably my favourite on balance, although even higher male percentage than the average ski resort (which might suit you of course!).
I got a mate flying into Salzburg from 10th to 14th to come boarding and tempted to go to Ischgl or Zell am See, if anyone else is also around. I have a Rav4.

I will be boarding with a load of mates (9 of us) in Ischgl over the same weekend so it would be great to have some TT'ers along aswell.
Unfortunately car space is all booked out.
We went to Ischgl same time last year and had a great time. The conditions were great, the slopes were really well prep'd and plenty of snow.
The night life was fab aswell. Its not peak season this time of year so a little 'quiter' than normal but thats probably a good thing.
So come on you guys vote for Ischgl.

I would really like to learn to snowboard. So if any other beginners will be going, I'd love to go (as I dont want to embarrass myself alone).

Nov 15 2004, 10:07 am
OK, just to confuse everyone I'm going to repeat this thread but with the weekend before, as a few people mentioned over the weekend that they can't come on the 4th...
Archie, where are you staying? Do you think there's any accommodation free still?
Eric the Hamster
Nov 15 2004, 10:11 am
I would like to go and I am also a beginner. I am quite flexible with the dates.

Nov 15 2004, 10:12 am
This is just the excuse I need to get back on the slopes. Count me in for whatever.

Nov 16 2004, 2:29 pm
OK, so this is looking pretty good.
I have a double room, a flat for 3 people, and 3 beds where Archie is stying, that's 8 beds and 2 cars.
So far the following have written, PLEASE CONFIRM or CANCEL, HERE OR BY PM:
me
Shaggy
Countrygirl
Mbangura
studentoflife
Eric the Hamster
DrivinWest
(plus of course 9 people with Archie's group, that'll be plenty!!)
So there is 1 space free, more if one of the above drops out.
JB
accommodation should be about EUR 35-40 per night, and ski hire is EUR 10 for both days with Sport Scheck (although not recommended for beginners as you have to change skis every hour with the test deal)

Eric the Hamster
Nov 16 2004, 4:08 pm
Yep I'll be going. Looking forward to my first ski trip. I'm sure i'll work something out with the ski rental even if it is not as cheap as that.

Nov 17 2004, 11:20 am
I'm in. Will probably ski also, but might be up for some boarding.

Nov 17 2004, 2:18 pm
Yes, I am still in for the 3-5 Dec.

Nov 17 2004, 3:19 pm

JoolyBooly
Nov 24 2004, 12:36 pm
shhhh, don't tell them! We can't all be matching!
Oh and just for the record all places (plus Hahnsen) are taken, still trying to get an extra bed for you...
JoolyBooly
Nov 24 2004, 3:56 pm
Ok, sorted. Archie has 9 beds, and so do we. The double goes to Arwen and Canuck, the rest of us are in appartments.
Car 1: Studentoflife
Eric the Hamster
Greg
JoolyBooly
Car 2: Hahnsen
Arwen
Canuck
Parrothead
In classic Booly fuck-up mode I managed to mis-count all the "will I, won't I" PMs, so i guess either DrivinWest is going to confirm once recovered from jetlag, or Johnny_who? is coming?? First come, first served.
*JB goes off to slap self for being silly wench*

Nov 24 2004, 4:04 pm
I hope car 1 is a big car. Eric isn't really Hamster-sized and neither is Greg.
Ravski
Nov 24 2004, 4:10 pm
I want to come but no transport. Spoke to Archie who will see if there is a spare bed. Cannot ski but want to be there and get lessons there I was told.
Arwen
Nov 24 2004, 4:13 pm
thanks for organizing everything JB!!!
hahnsen
Nov 24 2004, 4:15 pm
JB, thanks for organizing and squeezing me in!
JoolyBooly
Nov 24 2004, 4:18 pm
no probs, thanks for driving!!!
OK, as PM'd Ravski gets the final bed. Hahnsen, how big is your car?! Big enough for a Ravski? I am hardly Hamster sized either, but apart from Canuck you have "normal" sized passengers...
Arwen
Nov 24 2004, 4:22 pm
are the cars big enough to get our stuff in - like skis?
JoolyBooly
Nov 24 2004, 4:26 pm
ooh, I suggest we stick to PM. Just PMd you and Hahnsen. I know Studentof life has a snowboard wrack, don't know about skis. Ravski and Hamsterman are beginners and I'll be using the SportScheck rental offer (€10 for 2 days!) so we won't be taking skis.
Can studentoflife and hahnsen post to say how many people and bits of equipment they can take?
Everyone should also let me know when they could leave. The plan would be as above, but I guess if some can leave at 3 and some not before 7 we'll have to split the cars differently (having seperated Canuck & Arwen at the hip, which may take several hours of surgery)
studentoflife
Nov 24 2004, 4:27 pm
Car 1 that is me I have a ski/snowboard rack plus a rather large trunk area, so we should be fine.
hahnsen
Nov 24 2004, 4:27 pm
Technically possible, but I'm bringing my skies and I don't know who else.
Ravski
Nov 24 2004, 4:28 pm
Thanks for squeezing me in.
hahnsen
Nov 24 2004, 4:39 pm
Well, if StudentofLife has a rack, we could put the equipment from Car2 on Car1 and then I should be fine having one more passenger. What do you think?
Ravski
Nov 24 2004, 4:44 pm
If its a big deal I can get public transport.
Eric the Hamster
Nov 24 2004, 4:49 pm
i also have a roof box if required that will fit most roof bars (and roof bars but these will only fit my car)
JoolyBooly
Nov 24 2004, 4:49 pm
see you in January Ravski, it'll takes you weeks!
that's fine. So, everyone send me you departure times and I'll allocate the cars, either car can take 5 so that's fine, we just need to get the gear from car 2 to car 1 before he leaves.
Eric the Hamster
Nov 30 2004, 2:20 pm
Do we have times / places where we are meeting?
JoolyBooly
Dec 1 2004, 12:32 pm
no because neither driver has told me their plan (I know when Hahnsen can leave (i.e. "late") but not from where), and some passengers also haven't confirmed their departure times.
You are not helping Mommy Booly with this trip, kids!
It'll sort itself out.
So, the official munchkins are:
Ravski & Canuck (no departure time)
Studentoflife (no location or time)
If anyone knows Studentoflife, please let him know that he needs to return to planet earth so we can finalise the details.

If he doesn't appear by Friday morning, I'll have to borrow a car from somewhere.
canuck
Dec 1 2004, 12:39 pm
I'm leaving whenever Hahnsen is leaving...pretty obvious. Hahnsen's car has no official departure time (after 7pm is guaranteed) or place since we haven't got in touch with Studentoflife yet. The plan is to have Ravski go with him instead (if there is room) so we can put our skiis (3 pairs) in our (Hahnsens) car.
JoolyBooly
Dec 1 2004, 2:14 pm
Just to clarify, nothing is "obvious" until people confirm when they can leave and if they are bringing skis or snowboards with them. If studentoflife leaves early and someone in his car is working late, we'll have to swap. Common sense.
But not everyone has replied, including the driver himself.
It should have been a simple request?!
JoolyBooly
Dec 1 2004, 4:11 pm
OK, we were getting somewhere (the first car can leave early, studentoflife is alive!)..
but now Ravski and Johnny_who? are injured so we have a bed free.
Does anyone else want to come skiing?
canuck
Dec 2 2004, 1:02 pm
Who else wants to come skiing this weekend in Ischgl? Snow is OK there and you can ski in both Austria and Switzerland as the ski areas are connected. Can't beat that, eh? I think 2 beds are free...
JoolyBooly
Dec 2 2004, 1:05 pm
one bed is free, or 3 beds are free. I can cancel the double room, and there are spaces in the car (well.. that's if I can find a car...)
canuck
Dec 2 2004, 1:07 pm
C'mon Jeeves...you know you want to...Think of fresh powder, fondue on the swiss side and weissbier on the Austrian side...MMMMmmm.

Course I want to. Can't this weekend though.

JoolyBooly
Dec 2 2004, 3:26 pm
update... Lisa_e may come, Greg has disappeared, Archie's group has same problem of 3 drop-outs... possibly to share whole trip and solve our transport problem?... oh, the trials and tribulations of TT trips, it's like a bloody soap opera
so now you can start placing your votes on who breaks their leg first, etc...
I'm off to the doctor, will sort it out tomorrow morning! Nothing like Just-in-time planning
