Phone call expected "gegen späten Nachmittag"

I am waiting for a phone call. The e-mail contact stated that it would come "Es wäre gegen späten Nachmittag"

What do folk think? late afternoon: until 17:00, or later?

Jeez I hate non accurate appointments.

That's what I'd guess too. Until 5 p.m. später Nachmittag, after that is früher Abend.

Edit: sure it depends who you work for, but at some time if the call hasn't come you have to be able to say - with a clear conscience - that you waited to the end of the afternoon. So yeah, five.
