Specialist foods shopping in Hamburg
Jeeves_
Does anyone know where in Hamburg I can buy any of the following ingredients?

carpaccio (not of the frozen supermarket variety)
kaffir lime leaves (fresh)
fenugreek seeds
nori
phyllo dough

Also, can anyone recommend any speciality stores (Thai, Japanese, Indian, etc.) that sell unusual and usual ingredients?

Thanks a mil.

You can find lime leaves, nori and all kinds of spices (including fenugreek) at every Asian shop I've been to. Where are you located? There is one at the S Bahn Sternschantze, and another near the Hauptbahnhof, and lots of little places all over the city.

I haven't found phyllo dough; if you find it let me know!

If you want non-rubbish carpaccio, get yourself a wickedly sharp knife, buy some decent beef fillet, and whack it in the freezer for a while so it firms up and becomes easier to cut those wafer thin slices.

You can get ready made Filo pastry in Karstadt food halls usually, or try looking for Yufka in your local turkish supermarket

The Indian Supermarket, Lange Reihe 9 is may choice for fenugreek etc.
Must pay a visit soon - have run out of Patak's hot lime pickle - helps
out tasteless German cheese preferred by my better half!
There is a Chinese food supermarket and an Indian restaurant (Gobinda)
close by.
There is another good Chinese supermarket near Saturn in Möncheburg Str.
It's under the walkway from the Kaufhof Parkhaus to Kaufhof itself.

Arabic stores around St. Georg all have phyllo dough - relatively cheap and I've had success with it making spanakopita.

I stumbled across some phylo in the Turkish shop on the corner of the Mall in Ottensen/Altona, at the intersection of Ottenser Hauptstraße and Bahrenfelde Straße. Heaps of fruit and vege out the front, including - to my delight - pumpkin and sweet potato (kumera)! Can now make my sweet potato curry . . mmmm curry.
