Hi
Diwali (the Indian festival of light) is tonight.
Are there any special events planned?
Am just curious as I remember going to some great street parties and firework displays in Coventry and Birmingham.

I don't think our guys are doing anything, they're all either out of town or studying.
I'll be eating the leftovers of last night's Rama special, and maybe I'll light a candle or two in honour of the occasion smile.gif
Ravski
I am one of the people who is going back home to celebrate it at parents place. Cannot wait for the fireworks part of the celebrations. I am a bit childish. smile.gif

QUOTE
"Over the past few years several Indian musicians have also made the journey to Munich to star in Indian events, such as the Diwali celebrations. At this year’s festival, which takes place on November 13, the world-renowned Sargam group will be performing a program of fusion music—from Bollywood, Punjabi and Hindi songs to popular light classics—at a concert in the Tonhalle at Munich’s Kultfabrik. The party starts at 7 pm and tickets are available on the door."

I wasn't really planning to do anything, but having phoned home today, and emailed a few friends back in England, I kind of feel left out! :-(

Especially after reading Ravski's post!

Okay, I could just look it up, but a personal answer from someone in the know is probably more interesting. Can you explain to this WCRO (White, Celtic, Russian Orthodox - hah, more interesting than WASP) chick what Diwali is please?
satish
I guess the analogy is the Hindu equivalent to Christmas.

But the celebration doesn't mark the birth of Christ, rather the return of 'Rama and Sita' (Hindu Gods) who were exiled for a number of years to the jungle (so the story goes)

@Showem: Did you already read the link in Katrina's first post?
Showem
No. That's why I asked for a personal explanation. Feeling extremely lazy.

Happy Diwali to everybody.

I really wanted to organize a Diwali party but almost all the peeps I know are either already out of town or going out of town so I had to drop it sad.gif

Those who are gonna be in town tonight, we could still do something I guess. Somebody's place would be nice but we could go somewhere as a group as well

Let me know if anybody is interested.

I was looking for something to do tonight after 8:00ish.
Is there maybe an Indian restaurant doing something special?
